Question about bent penis

So I thought my OB botched DS's circ.  Turns out she didn't (but she didn't do a great job either).  We went to a pediatric urologist and he help detach the skin that was starting to readhere.  He also said that he had a ventrical curvature of the penis.

He pushed down on the base of DS's penis and instead of standing straight up, it bent downward a little.  He said it's not a big deal, it happens all the time and we'll reevaluate when he's 8-9 months to see if he needs surgery.

I researched this and found a lot of forums when 30 and 40yo men have this surgery because they've always had low self-esteem b/c of it, sex was painful for him or his partner, or had ED.

Anyone else have this or any experience with it?  I'd rather not put my baby boy under general anesthesia, but I also want him to have a good quality of life later on.

I would wait like the doctor said, because like lots of things, it could correct itself. I wouldn't borrow trouble until I needed to. Can I ask why your OB did the circ?  My son's pedi did his, and I always assumed this was pretty standard. I wouldn't want a vag doctor messing with my baby's penis, honestly.

Ob's are surgeons, pedis are not..it makes sense for ob's to do it.  At least this is standard where I'm from.

I've delivered in NY and PA and both of my practices the OB's did the circs.  The Pedi's could do it too, but my first was a girl (no need) and with DS, my pedi didn't have privleges at my hospital.

I never liked this OB and when she came in, I almost said I wanted a different doctor, but I didn't.  I guess she took off too much on the bottom and he bled too much.  They needed to corderize it to stop the bleeding.  So traumatic!

It's almost a blessing I thought she botched it b/c we would have never went to the pedi urologist and found this other thing.  I thought penis's were supposed to be easier than vagina's!

My DS1 had his readhere and we didn't catch it until he was 9mo old. The pedi pulled it back in the office during his regular 9mo visit. It bled a little but ultimately we realized after the fact that it was bothering him way more than we thought, he was a totally different kid. But I also would want it taken care of sooner rather than later if it were me. I wouldn't want to have to deal with it with a kid that knows what his penis is and can grab it while it's healing.

As far as who does the circ, with DS1 the pedi did it I don't even know if there was a discussion of it with my OB at the time. With DS2 I had a different OB and a different pedi since we had moved in the mean time. The OB and the pedi basically flip a coin so to speak. If the pedi can't make it that day then the OB would have done it. My doc just told me to talk to the pedi when he came in to meet us in post-partum.

I know they're surgeons, but like, would you want your OB doing open-heart surgery?  No. Penises are a little outside their wheelhouse. DS's pedi did his circ, and did a great job.

The OBs do them here.  Don't know why, it's just standard practice.

Yes, I'd want my OB doing open-heart over someone who is not a surgeon and not trained in wielding a scalpel.  10 times out of 10.  If you were in on a commercial flight and the pilot passed out, who would you want taking a crack at landing the plane - the passenger whose job is piloting small propeller planes, or the passenger whose job is washing and waxing commercial air liners?  I'd go with the pilot.

But like, did you know that OB's are trained to preform circs? They wouldnt just put an infant in front of an OB and say snip away if they werent. Sure a pedi is qualified and trained but OB's are too. Like others said its standard for the OB to do it in most practices and its not uncommon at all.

OP, I havent talked much about this yet on the bump because we have yet to see a pediatric urologist but we are thinking DS has a hidden penis/peekaboo penis. It is hidden unless he is peeing or first wakes up (KWIM). When we press down on the area it will be exposed but if not the only thing there is the foreskin. He was not circumcised due to this reason. His pediatrician says it is common and sometimes they will grow out of it but if not he will have to have surgery to avoid any future problems later on in his adult life. Such as painful or unsuccessful intercourse and infection. We have an appointment after the new year with urology to see exactly what our next steps are. I know this is different that bent penis but if things go as accordingly DS might have to have surgery and idk how I feel about it. I just wanted to give you big HUGS because I know it is an uneasy situation.

My OB (rather her associate since it was her day off) did the circ. Our pedi advised us to pull down on the foreskin at diaper changes to prevent re adherence; so far so good.
