Holy expensive HIGH CHAIR!

I am tinkering with my registry and did a search for high chairs so I could read reviews and figure out which one I want. I came across this Peg Perego high chair. I thought Peg Perego was just a stroller, apparently not. Although this high chair is more expensive than the stroller I want! Would you pay that much? Is there anything that could even make a high chair worth that much? Sheesh. These people are making so much money off of babies!

I have to admit that I love my $19.99 IKEA Antilop highchair. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30069724/

It's small and works perfectly in our modern, urban space.

We started out with a fancier, expensive one, but it was always in the way so we got rid of it and never looked back.

Nope. If I were to spend more money than usual on a high chair, I'd go with the stokke for sure. Cheaper, sleeker, seems better for the long term. And better looking.

The PP high chair almost looks like medical furniture or something to me, lol.

ETA: By PP I mean Peg Perego, not the high chair pp posted, hah.

I agree. It does look clinical. And the stokke is very nice. My neighbor has one.

DITTO! We have 2 of them and then upgraded to a toddler chair from Ikea. Both wipe off and can be hosed off super easy.

My son used his high chair for a grand total of maybe 3 months, and that was when he was still laying back in it for cereal, etc... He absolutely hated it.  We ended up buying a booster seat for $20 and he's been sitting in that for over 2 years.  I definitely would NOT spend so much on a high chair.

That thing does look like medical equipment. We are getting a high chair via some recs from Baby Bargains. They do not rank the IKEA one highly or else I would have gotten it. We are not going to be able to use a booster seat-our DR chairs are antiques and extremely small. My search for chair cushions (x small from Ballard Designs which are still too big) leads me to believe no booster chair will fit.

I found a Fisher Price high chair that does not break the bank or look hideous (well it is less hideous) and it has good ratings. The name is Dreamsicle or something.

I wonder why? I used it every day for a couple of years and don't have a single complaint. The strap on my version was recalled and IKEA replaced it, but I never even had a problem with it either.

Maybe it's the lack of features -- which is something I love about it.

Agreed.

I don't need something to look pretty. I need functional. I need to be able to wipe off sweet potatoes, and such super easy. This one has no nooks and crannies for crap to hide in/under. So easy to clean.

babies and weddings = money maker

No, I would never buy a high chair that cost that much. I could buy a used one in good condition for WAAAAAAAAAAY less

I thought it was going to be this one http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Sprout-Chair-Taupe-Birch/dp/B003AM8CLO, which is super cute, but $250??? No way!

I have been thinking about getting the Ikea one. Good to know it works well for some of you!

Yes

Exactly. It's easy to clean and use. No pushing a button and pulling out the tray with one hand and putting baby in with the other. Child in, belted, fed, then exit. Plus, it doesn't need it's own wall space -- I just pushed it against the wall right over the dog bowls because the space underneath is completely open.

Once my little boy was too big for it, I removed the legs and still have it in the closet and ready to go again.

Yes, $300 is bad, but feast your eyes on THIS bad boy: http://www.poshtots.com/baby-furniture/baby-furniture/highchairs/nautical-highchair/18/1530/1317/21739/poshproductdetail.aspx

I stumbled on it while looking for gliders this weekend...

I sent it to my mother for inspiration since she's a sweet artist and can whip one up similar for us second hand. She pointed out that not only could she do it for me, but she could fly cross country, paint it, buy us dinner, and fly back for less!

I cannot remember, but I want to say they said it was dangerous. I am taking a lot of their rankings with a grain of salt. This one, whatever it was, raised a red flag for me. I was planning on getting it because it is plain and easy to clean. The other ones look horrible to deal with.

My version with the recalled belt-strap is older and IKEA replaced it for free. But, as I wrote earlier, I personally never had the buckle come undone, but I do know that was the reason for the recall. Outside of that, I cannot imagine what could possibly be unsafe about it -- IKEA would have to recall the whole chair if it was unsafe and it's been around for many years. There's nothing unusual about it, the legs spread out for a nice wide base.

Anyway, I still highly recommend it for moms that don't want to fool around with elaborate high chairs with lots of features and parts and nooks and crannies and multiple trays with compartments, etc..

We had a Stokke Trip Trapp for my DD and we got it from our EI service. It did not meet her needs and I could not believe it was so expensive for it to just be so plain. We donated it to her SN's school and they love it! We ended up with a fisher price high chair and it has been great! We still use it and she is 3!

So when DD was an infant I started researching high chairs and DH had points through his company and one thing we could get was this Peg Perego High chair. Its ridic expensive so we wouldnt have it if it wasnt techinically free. There is nothing more fantastic about it than a regular high chair. I like that it adjusts to the table, and that it folds flat but other than that its really nothing to write home about. Save your money unless you really think you need it. This is the one we have. The one on the right end.

We have a space saver from walmart. 40 I think. Its perfect, takes up no room, and LO is still in it at almost two. Remember that they get really dirty, colored on, we have painted in it. Make sure its easy to take apart and clean.

I like the Ikea one too but it just doesn't look very comfy. I hate sitting in uncomfortable chairs while I eat.
