Is Gregory too Brady?

In my poll last week, Gregory was the clear winner. It has been my favorite since DS2 was born, but DH doesn't like it. He thinks it is too Brady Bunch.

I think it is so distinguished, I like that it has a Greek origin like Theodore. I like both Gregory and the NN Greg. I like that it is a normal name, but is falling in popularity. (#279 last year.) I'm not sure if I need to move on though because DH is worried about the Bradys. Here are my questions:

Do you know who Greg Brady is?

Do you think this will be relevant/ tease worthy for our children?

If you voted for (or against) Gregory, did the Brady Bunch influence your vote at all?

Gregory is an amazing name! I love it.

It wouldn't cause teasing, it's not like kids would know what the Brady Bunch is.

Do you know who Greg Brady is? Of course.

Do you think this will be relevant/ tease worthy for our children? Of course not.

If you voted for (or against) Gregory, did the Brady Bunch influence your vote at all? Not even a smidge.  I don't think of Greg Brady when I hear Gregory.  I think of popes and my friend's son.  It seemed like such a big name on a baby, but it totally fits him.

I don't think of Greg Brady when I hear Gregory.  I've heard of the nn Rory for Gregory, which I like a bit more than Greg.

At first I didn't get what you were saying.  I thought you were comparing the names Gregory with Brady as a first name.

With that said, I didn't even make the connection to Greg Brady. :)

Verdict: your H is crazy.

The Brady's would never cross my mind with the name Greg, and I used to watch that show every day before school as a kid. Our kids will have no idea who Greg Brady is, and even if they did, there is no tease factor there. I mean, it's not like that character was disgusting or sleazy or nerdy, or any other negative connotation.

I'm getting so big!

I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.

Yes, I know Greg Brady but unless your last name is Brady, I think you should be fine.

I had two friends in high school named Greg and neither made me think of a 1970s sitcom.  I think it's a great choice!

My brother's name is Gregory.  I used to love the Brady Bunch, but never thought of the Brady's in connection to his name.  I am pretty sure no one has ever said anything like that.

My brother is named Gregory, and I don't think anyone ever teased him for having the same name as a fictional Brady. I think it's a great name.

I think it's a great name.

I know who Greg Brady is, but that is definitely not the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name Gregory. I don't think our kids will know who that is.

My husband's name is Gregory/Greg and I have never once thought of the Brady Bunch.  I love that it is a classic name that is fairly unusual.

I had no idea what you meant about Gregory being too Brady until I got to the end of your post. I thought you meant if they were too similar. Yes I know who he is but in noooo wayy would it be tease worthy. I have a cousin with that name and would use it myself. It's doubtful some parents know who Greg Brady is, let alone the kids.

Gregory is a good name that will age well when he is older

I'm pretty sure kids are going to know what the Brady Bunch is by a certain age. It's still a pretty classic TV show with reruns galore and its own set of movies. Just sayin, since some seem to think newbie kids wont even know who theey are. I think the difference is that kids aren't going to care about it or think about it in relation to names or in a making fun sense. They'd probably find something more generational or current trend
appro to link things too.

I think of no one when I hear the
name. Its been around a long time, widely used across many age groups and is a solid name. However its just NMS in its full or NN form.

Honestly, I know who the Brady bunch is, but I have no idea the names except for Marcia, Marcia, Marcia! Unless your ln is Brady I wouldn't even worry about it. Frankly, even if your ln was Brady I wouldn't worry about it. This generation may know who the Brady bunch is, but they will likely not know the specifics such as names and what not. Gregory is an awesome name and it would be stupid if this were the reason not to pick it.

I know who Greg Brady is, but hadn't made the connection until you brought it up. I doubt kids today know who he is. Besides it's not like you would name baby Gregory Brady LastName.

My oldest is named Gregory, and he's 20 and has never gotten a brady reference for it. It's really too old of a show I think.

I'm obviously partial, but it's really a good name. Classic, but not really common, easy to spell and ages well with them too. When ds was little we all called him Greggie (sometimes I still do).
