Share your feeding/sleeping schedule

Before getting pregnant I read several books about getting your baby on a schedule to ensure good sleeping habits at night. At our last pediatrician appointment he said to feed him every 3 hours during the day 3 oz and then if he will go 4 hours at night feed him every 4 hours. He will be 6 weeks on Thursday and I have been lagging on his feeding schedule and now I'm afraid he isn't getting enough to eat. (He cries after feedings) Because of a severe milk protein allergy I am having to give him special formula so I am not able to breast feed anymore. My question for everyone is what is your schedule? how many ounces? how often? Do you still wake up LO for feedings? As of right now he will go 5-6 hours between feedings at night but my dr says no longer than 4 hours and to wake him up during the day every 3 hours. I was enjoying my extra hour of sleep at night. We meet with him again Friday so I will ask him again then but I wanted to see what you ladies are doing.

I've never FF so I'm not sure about how much/how often. But if he is back to his birth weight, do not wake him up at night. Just let him sleep and feed him once he wakes on his own. If he is having trouble gaining weight then I would continue to wake him up.

Ditto all this. DD is only 2 weeks old so I'm not even worrying about a schedule right now. She eats every 2-3 hours during the day and usually does a 4 or 4 1/2 hour stretch at night. Unless there is a special reason, I would never ever wake a baby to eat.

As long as they aren't losing weight and are eating during day, I wouldn't wake a sleeping baby. Every pedi I different. Mine says not to wae them. He said they know when they are hungry and if they want it, they will wake for it ;)

I agree with most of what has been said. At night time - I don't wake my LO - He will wake when he is hungry. However, during the day, I feed about every 3 hours, which means, on an occasion - yes, I wake my baby up. He only has one long stretch of sleep a day and I want that to be at night.

My LO will be 12 weeks (6 weeks adj.) on Sunday and I feed about 3.5 ounces of formula a feeding and I usually do about 4 ounces before going to bed.

As far as how much you should feed your little one - I have heard about 2.5 ounces per pound. So if your LO is 10 pounds .... then about 25 ounces a day.

As long as he is gaining weight - I wouldn't sweat it. Mommy knows best! :)

Our LO is younger, almost 3 weeks, but she's basically eating 3 oz every 3 hours. We've had a couple 4 hour stretches but not consistent. I would listen to pedi, we had to wake up LO to eat in beginning bc she lost weight & pedi said if they get dehydrated they get sleepy & don't wake up to eat as well & become more dehydrated.

Like PPs said, I wouldn't wake your LO if they are gaining weight. I've always just let DD eat as much as she wants. If your LO is still crying after, try offering another ounce and see if that satisfies him more. Also, once I got off my 'schedule', DD and I were both much happier. He's gaining weight (I am assuming) so I would try letting him eat on demand ie don't wake him up from a nap just to feed him. Once I started doing this with DD, it was like she was a different baby.

Some babies like schedules, others don't. You just have to do trial and elimination to find what works for you and your LO.
