We are banking it for our entire family's sake. We didn't bank LO1's because we didn't have the money at the time, so we really wanted to bank this time since LO2 is our last.
We are looking at it as health insurance for our entire family (since lo1, lo2, myself, or dh) could potentially use it someday if needed. We spoke with our OB and they had a LOT of coupons and advice on which companies to use. We set up payment plans and our monthly payment is only 77 dollars for 18m (1400 total).
We decided to do it because even though it's expensive, if something ever happened to our child that could have been "cured" with cord blood, we would have always regretted it. Besides, the medical bills itself will cost way more than cord blood. Fwiw, it makes sense to us b/c diabetes runs in our family, which is something cord blood is working to fix.
