Arching and crying during feeding?

DS doesn't do it every time he eats, but sometimes he will stiffen and arch and scream when I'm giving him. Bottle. Usually when it happens when he has taken a break and I offer more. H starts to suck and lets it dribble out of his mouth and then does the arch and yell. Is this reflux? Or maybe those times it's his way of saying he's full and I'm about to over feed him? Anyone else's LO do this? TIA!

Babies systems are very immature - and everything that they do is new and feels weird and sometimes could even hurt a little. I read in 'The Happiest Baby on the Block' that some babies overreact to a normal intestinal reflex that happens when babies eat. Their stomachs give their lower intestines a command that tells them to squeeze when they start to eat so that their systems can make more room for more food. For some babies this squeezing feels like a punch in the belly.

Mine does this, too, occasionally. He does it when I take the bottle away to burp him.

my 9 week old does it almost every feeding! It is hilarious...he shakes his head "no" so big! Lol...he is a nut. I have no idea why he does it, but it doesnt seem to bother him. I just keep the bottle in his mouth and he'll go right back to sucking after he does it.

I remember reading that arching the back is a sign of reflux.  I would check that out

Mine does this too. In her case it was reflux. Then she becomes frantic and she wont burp. Then when she does get the bottle back she shakes her head from side to side. Eventually she latches back on to the bottle. Happens just about every meal, especially the evening ones.

My LO does it too sometimes. I call it his Stevie Wonder. It can be aggrivating.  I am going to ask his pedi about this.  Glad you asked

Sounds like when my LO needs a break and a burp. She does this at the breast when she is gassy.

DD did this every feeding but also started to have little strings of blood in her poop. Ped said it is a milk allergy in her case

Thanks ladies, I will ask at his one month appt. it's weird he only does it once in awhile, so hoping its not reflux. I am guessing it would be more often if it were?
