Newbie has some questions....

I took my very first ovulation test last night and got a very quick positive. So now my question is this...my bf is out of town til tmw will it be too late to conceive then? Also my second question is about charting and ovulation. How do you know how long your cycle is when you have an irregular cycle? Also, I just got completely lucky last night...I don't usually know when I am ovulating. Any advice would be so helpful.

First off, read the newbie link, lots of good info there.

Re TTC tomorrow, yes, it is possible.. It just depends on how long you O after a pos OPK. I get pos OPKs for multiple days, so that may or may not be your case. I'm mobile bumping, so I won't get much more detailed that.

If you haven't already, watch the tutorials on the fertility friend site.. They will help give you a better idea of timing, your cycle, fertility signs, etc.

ETA: a pos OPK does not always mean O, the only way to confirm is by temping. And even perfect timing won't always result in a BFP.

If you are not charting, I would suggest it.  Charting can help you find patterns in your cycles were you don't think there are any.  It can also be a good way to show your doctor your cycle info.  (not all listen but some do). Keep doing OPKs unti you get a negative.  Like a previous poster said, I get multiple positives before I ovulate.  The only way to accurately know you do go ahead and O after + OPKs is by temping.

With OPK in order to catch my surge I have to test 3 times a day and usually I catch it late at night the day before O.

This cycle I ran out of OPK's so didn't use any, just relying on temp shifts to confirm O and estimating fertile week by CM and what is my regular O pattern I have learned to expect by charting,  which for me can be anywhere from CD15 - CD 22.

I definetely recommend charting, and as PP have stated fertility friend has great tools to get you started. GL!

It really depends on how long after a positive OPK you ovulate -which can differ from person to person and even cycle to cycle. It is possible that having sex tomorrow will be enough, but it's not certain.

Charting definitely helps - it confirms ovulation for you. Unfortunately, it does so after the fact, so it doesn't help you time sex, but that's what OPKs are for. Check out fertility friend for charting your BBT.

As PPs said, read the newbie link at the top of the TTGP page. It has lots of helpful information.

Good luck!
