How bad is traffic for your hubby going to/coming home from work?

If you've been to Lejeune, chances are you've dealt with it.  It takes my husband an hour to get to work and usually an hour to get home.  I just think this is ridiculous when our husband's already spend so much time away from their families.  Who needs 2 extra hours away from home each day?  He has to leave NO later tan 5:45 in the morning and if he leaves at 5 in the afternoon (the earliest he can leave his job) then he can be prepared to be stuck in traffic for over an hour....

It wasn't quite this bad when we first moved here but I think it's bc lots of guys have come home (which I'm glad for) but it looks like they could do something about the congestion....

OK...hormonal pregnancy rant over. :)  Is traffic like this where you are??

We are also stationed at Lejeune. We live on base and LOVE it. He's got a 7 minute commute to work with no traffic. That was a huge reason we chose to live on base. It's awesome. I do have to remember not to try and leave the base between 4 and 6pm in the evenings, though. LOL.

The housing section I drove through was beautiful!  I love the well kept playgrounds there.  I need a friend on base near a playground! :D  In all seriousness though, I would have loved to live on base but my hubby wanted to buy a house.  We live off Piney Green so you can only imagine!!  I think it would be nice to live near other young families that my daughter could eventually play with.  It feels so isolated here out in town!

When we first moved to Lejeune, we lived in Jacksonville, near Gum Branch. Big mistake. Why? That's where the majority of traffic is coming and going to. It took DH over an hour each way. We then moved off Piney Green, and it took DH less than 20 minutes each way.

We now are stationed at Quantico. If you think the traffic is bad in Jacksonville, you never want to be here. Thankfully, DH works on the TBS side, so it is about a 20 minute commute. If you have to go North in the morning or South in the afternoon, it could easily turn into a 90 minute commute to get 10 miles.

DH commutes from Va Beach to Newport News at the moment, so yes traffic is that bad. I used to do a similar commute though so it's not that big of a deal to me.

We're in Fayetteville, NC and my husband doesn't have an issue usually getting on Bragg but if he gets off around 5 o'clock traffic is terrible! Too many people...not enough room.

We live in San Antonio, my H is at Randolph, but we live in SA proper. It's not so much the traffic, which is pretty bad, as it is the Texas drivers, especially because H drives a pretty small car. Especially if you have to get on I35. We've figured out ways to take the loop roads, which take a bit longer because of construction, but it's much less stressful. We've put our application in to get a house on base, which we're really looking forward to, plus we have several friends there. It means he could walk to work and we could be a one car family.

We are at Lejeune too. Hubby has to leave by 5:30 isn't to beat traffic and usually stays at work until after 6. If he leaves before then it can take him over an hour and a half to get home. It's super annoying. We live off Gumbranch.

We live near our base and it takes him less than 10 minutes to get to and from.  There is little traffic, and it's never busy or congested because of the area.

We're at Lejeune as well and live out in Richlands and it can take my husband up to two hours to get home sometimes. He leaves no later than 430 or 5 in the morning and then sleeps in his truck, just so he doesn't have to deal with the traffic. I ad to deal with it once and I will never do it again. I will walk around the commissary or exchange just to avoid it.

You know, I never understood why the traffic is so bad there at Lejeune. My husband and I were stationed there and even if you live 5 miles from the front gate, it still took an hour to get home. We are at Pendleton and it isn't nearly as bad. You can live in a different city nearby more than 15 miles from the gate and in heavy traffic it will still only take 30-45 minutes. In the mornings there isn't much traffic either and once you get through the traffic to get on base (5-8minutes) it is a smooth ride through the gate.

We are in Europe and fortunately we live in a very convenient location.  The door to door commute is 15 minutes.  That being said, DH prefers to ride his bike.  We have some really great bike trails through farmland that lead right to the gate.  Plus PT is taken care of on the way to and from work!

We are in Fayetteville, NC and if my husband and I try to leave base to drive home anytime around 4:45 to about 5:45 it can make a normal 20 minute commute much longer.

We also live in the Hampton Roads area where all traffic eventually funnels through a tunnel or over a bridge and gets backed up every morning/evening and sometimes without rhyme or reason.  With that in mind, we chose our house to be near work to make DH's commute minimal.  We live one exit away from his work so it takes him about 10 minutes.

However, we chose to send our kids to preschool in another city than where we live which means I sit in traffic every morning for at least 45 minutes.  But that's our choice and it doesn't bother me.

At our next duty station DH has implemented a 30 minute rule.  He doesn't want to drive more than 30 minutes in each direction so we are looking at housing accordingly.  If that means we live on post, so be it even though that's not our first choice.

We live on post at Norfolk, so now DH just drives down the street, no tunnels or gates or anything! :-) But before we moved into the military housing we were in Chesapeake, and it was about 40 minute commute for DH each way- IF the traffic was good. In bad traffic, it could take up to 1-1.5 hours.

We just got to Lejeune 8 weeks ago from Bethesda, and traffic is MUCH better here than it was in Bethesda. It takes about 30-45 mins here. In Bethesda it was on average an hour and a half, give or take. I remember one time it taking 3 hours. Mind you we lived 11 miles from the gate.

We are at Ft hood and live about 10 minutes maybe less from his unit, driving home it can take up to an hour sometimes. We are going to Hawaii next and I don't even want to think about how long it's going to take, I've heard traffic is horrendous!

We are moving to Quantico in April (a month before Baby is due) and my husband will be going through TBS.  Do you have any places you suggest living near the TBS side?  We do have a big dog.  Any help would be great!

You'll want to live in Stafford, but I have no suggestions on places to live there.

We are also in Jacksonville, NC and we live a mile or so from the airport. DH's gets up early, beats the traffic, and sleeps in his office in the mornings. In the evenings he he stays until 6, misses the rush, and gets home in an half hour.

HAHAHAHA we live in San Diego, and here's how it works here, 1. get over the bridge by 5:20 and it takes about 5 minutes, or 2. get there at 6 and it takes an hour... hubby has to be on his ship at 6:30, so he leaves the house at 5
