Name thoughts - ideas

Hi Everyone.. Well, today marks 14 weeks for me. I'm starting to think of names and I am not a very descisive person..I like several names but could use some input.. First off my Mom passed away a couple years ago and I definitely want to use her name as the middle name "Ellen".. I was thinking of Lauren Ellen - I love the name Lauren - i know it's old but I don't think it's used so much and I like that.. I like Danielle too..and Samantha..Angela..are a few.. Do any of those sound good - Lauren Ellen, Danielle Ellen, Samantha Ellen, Angela Ellen ?? Please any ideas are a help!! :) I think it's a girl --if it's a boy I have that under control in the name department.. :)

We are in the same boat, boy name is all set but girl names are much much much more difficult for us. We already have 2 girls and it was so hard to find names for them. We haven't been able to decide this time either. If this one is a girl her middle name will be Dawn after my younger sister. First name choices kind of got stuck at Emily, Juliette, Samantha, Cassidy, Nicole, Shealynn, Cassandra. DH really wants a name that can be shortened to end with a Y sound, like Abigayle to Abby and Victoria to Tori. So far baby has been uncooperative at u/s so we will be team green this time around. Hopefully we won;t have Baby Girl or Little Sister for too long.

Personally, I don't like Lauren Ellen...the -en ending on both just looks/sounds weird.  What about Laura Ellen or Laurel Ellen?

I love the name Lauren! I don't know that I *love* it with Ellen, but since Ellen is your mom's name, I think the sentimental value erases any other concerns. Like you said, how often will your daughter be called by her first name, anyway?

Lauren Ellen does not sound good together, it sounds harsh. In fact, i don;t like any of the names you've chosen with the middle name Ellen. What about just Elle as a first name? It's very pretty and a little more modern and still (at leat in my opinion) pays homage to your mom.

Elle Samantha is my top pick.

If you want to use Ellen as a middle, I like Evangeline Ellen, Aurora Ellen, Camilla Ellen

Lauren is my favorite FN of the bunch, but I don't like it with Ellen because of the same -en sound at the end. I think Samantha Ellen is probably the one that sounds best. I like the suggestion of Laura, or could you modify Ellen a bit, like Lauren Ella or Lauren Elle, etc.?

I've got to agree with those that said they dont like Lauren Ellen.  Individually, I like each name, but not together.

Also, Lauren is actually a pretty popular name.  It's been going down in popularity, but was #62 on the list last year.

Personally, I vote for Ellen Danielle. I am also naming my daughter after my Mom -- she passed away in May -- but I just can't see doing a middle name..she's getting her name as her first name.

I think Ellen is a beautiful name. Of all the names you listed, it's my favorite.

I like Lauren Ellen, but I really like Laura Ellen a lot better (it just seems to flow better, and Laura is still a beautiful name). I like the pp's suggestions too, of possibly modifying Ellen to Elle (either as a first name or a middle name). Elle is so very close to Ellen, which would still honor your mother. It might be easier to pair with another name and it's a bit more modern too (if that's important to you).

Any way you choose, you've got a great list going. Good luck choosing the perfect name! :)

Although I'm not a fan of either Angela or Samantha, I think a name that ends in an "A" or "E" sound will work better with Ellen as a MN than having two consonant sound names together (like Lauren).  Maybe Victoria Ellen, Kira Ellen, etc.  (Not exhaustive at all.)  But yeah, I'd go with an "A" or "E" name you like.

I'm a fan of two middle names. I have two and so does my daughter. My mother passed when I was 17, I gave my daughter my mother's name as her 1st middle name and her other grandmothers name as her 2nd middle name. The first name we picked we just liked. So maybe you can do two middle names?
