Wedding Ring & Finger Swelling Question

My engagement ring and wedding band are starting to become tighter as my fingers and hands are swelling up.

Have any of you had to take your rings off yet? How far along were you when you did?

Trying to wait as I don't want to take them off but then again don't want to wait until it's too late.

I'm only 21.5 weeks, and on some days, my rings are really tight. I bet I'll take them off sometime in the next few weeks.

The sheet of important info my OB gave me says on Swelling - Don't wear rings if your hands are swollen.

I would say if you can't easily take them off due to swelling you may want to stop wearing them for a few days and see if you can improve the swelling. Some releif could come from drinking more water and lower salt in take.

Thankfully I never had to but a friend of mine bought a bigger set at Walmart. It was cheap but looked good. She didn't want to go without rings.

I had to take mine off at 25 weeks with DS. They were still a little tight after I had him, and probably needed to be resized. This time I took them off around 8 weeks :-( I'm getting them resized after DS#2 is born.

I wore mine on a chain around my neck starting around 30 weeks.  I could get them on but I had the damnest time getting them off to apply lotion or to cook and I got scared about them getting stuck and needing to be cut off.

Somewhere around 3 week postpartum they fit again.  I had pre-e and retained a buttload of fluid.  I was pretty swollen for quite a while.

I took mine off a long time ago bc my sister in law's got stuck and she had to go to the ER and nothing scares me more than that.

I wanted to do this, but I was paranoid if the chain broke and I wouldn't know.

I was super paranoid about it, but I took the chain off when I went to bed and it was a thicker SS chain.  I usually play with my necklaces anyway so if it wasn't there, I'd have noticed quickly.  A velvet rope or a satin cord would be nice, too.

I took them off the day after thanksgiving at 23 weeks. My sister who is also pregnant said I better before they have to get cut off. I have been wearing them on a chain around my neck. I'm going to visit my granny for replacements. I told her before I would not walk around without at least a wedding band, the lil old lady looks are mean. She laughed and told me to come see her when I had to take them off. Cant wait to pick out some new bling.

It comes and goes, but I'll probably have to permenantly keep my rings off within the next week or so. I'm 26 weeks now.

The jeweler sized my wedding band larger on purpose, but my e ring is tight in the mornings. So far I can still take it on and off, but that might change soon. I am undecided about wearing it on a chain.

I think i'll start by taking off my engagement ring and keeping my wedding band, seems if I only wear the one it's not as tight and if it gets worst later i'll take that one off too and replace it with a cheaper sterling silver one until I can re-wear it again.

Better that than having to have it cut off!

Last time I took mine off around 20 weeks but now I am 18 and it fits fine.  I did get a new one between these pregnancies but they are the same size.

i did around 22w.  I am retaining water like crazy, some days worse than others. I have a spare ring that has always been loose that still fits fine, so I wear that...

I had to stop wearing mine a few weeks ago for the opposite reason.  My rings were too Big on me and I probably should have stopped wearing them soon then I did.  I gained weight but parts of me got smaller.  I think everything was being moved to my belly.  It was really noticable in my fingers and face.  My face had that drawn look which was not attractive.  I am glad that I am finally looking healthy again.

This!

I've been down to just my band for a couple of weeks now.  I'm 22 weeks currently. When I wear them together, it's hard to take them off in the evening.

Take them off now before it's too late.

With DD#1 I didn't notice much swelling.  One week, sometime early in 3rd T, I noticed they were a little tighter, but i could take them off.  DH told me to keep them off.  I scoffed.

1 week later, I could not get them off, tried everything, and had to go to the jeweler to get it cut off. (They tried everything, too.)  Sucked.

Thereafter I wore a cheapie ring from a trendy store that was actually elasticbanded covered in rhinestones, but it didn't pinch!

No swelling here yet but I am not doing that again.  The minute it feels a bit tight, it's coming off.

Yeah, I took mine off early on and ordered a fake set I've been wearing. It makes me feel better to have something to wear in the meantime.

I took mine off last pregnancy and put them around a chain. I won't be doing that this time because they got very scratched from rubbing against the chain. I ended up needing to have them re-dipped b/c it was awful looking. I will probably put them away and buy something cheap to wear that is bigger.

If I were you I would definitely take them off now. Take them off while you still can.

I don't remember exactly but I think I had to take my band off at teh beginning of 3rd Tri with DS. So I wore it around my neck. I took it off the first day my hands started swelling because I was terrified of it getting stuck.

Thank you so much for this post! I never really take my rings off and, although I have a little swelling, didn't notice if they were too snug or not.  Now I realize I can't get them off!  I'll wait until the swelling goes down later and slip them off until baby arrives... I have my grandmother's larger rings to wear until then.

I guess I never considered this...I haven't noticed any swelling yet at 28 weeks but I'll definitely keep my eye on it.

When my husband was trying on wedding bands, he tried one that was too small and it got stuck. The jewler pulled out a bottle of windex, sprayed his finger and was easily able to slide it off...we were very surprised but she said it works every time.
