Hi all!! I wanted to introduce myself a few weeks ago but we just returned from a mission trip to Haiti so I knew I wouldn't be active on here for a couple weeks!! Here's the rundown on our situation (which I have summed up in my siggy)...
We were married in 2005 and have always planned to have a very large family. We used to joke about having 19 kids and then decided maybe we should stop saying that. Haha. So we decided we wanted to have 5 of our own and then start adopting! After TTC for well over a year we decided to get aggressive and pursue looking into why nothing was happening. I even had to push my OB when she told me "let's give it another 6 months".... We're not getting any younger here (I'm 31 for a couple more months and he's 32) so we are more than ready to start our family!
In December of 2011 (literally a couple days before Christmas) we were told no sperm could be found in the semen analysis. We knew the next step was to see a urologist but we simply just couldn't afford it. We had just bought our land and were preparing to move into our house this May. Finally in September we continued the quest and my hubby was diagnosed with CAVD (Congenital absence of the vas deferens) and also found out he's a carrier for CF (Cystic Fibrosis). This was of course devastating but we kept telling ourselves, at least we know why we're not getting pregnant!!
We've just completed genetic testing and we're in the clear on CF since I'm not a carrier... now we're just waiting to talk to the doctor about our results since a couple other things showed up in our results but from what I've read it's not anything too alarming. We've also had blood work done and and I've even had a saline ultrasound / mock transfer.
So now we're down to the financials. We would have pursued IVF immediately but we just couldn't afford it. On top of the usual IVF costs, we have the added expense of $3,000-$4,000 for my hubby's surgery/biopsy/storage. We've applied for a grant and are praying we get some assistance. Regardless, we'll borrow if we have to and do IVF in January!
I'm super thankful IVF is an option, but still have my emotional days. This is our only hope of having our own children so I try not to let myself go down the lists of "what if's". So grateful I've found this group (thanks to a friend!) and look forward to us all getting thru this journey together!!
Much Love,
Suzanne

We are taking baby steps. We were just diagnosed two weeks ago, so I am trying to schedule my genetic testing to make sure I am not a carrier for CF. We are hoping to do our first IVF Summer 2013.

Gotcha! We did our genetic testing with Counsyl (counsyl.com) and they seem pretty affordable if your insurance doesn't cover it. They ship you the test and you ship it to them. Our doctor had to give us a code to call and request the kits but I'm not sure if that's required. Keep me posted and let me know if I can help at all... looks like we're just a few months ahead of you guys in the whole process. :)
Everytime I read this title, Digital Underground's Humpty Dance comes into my head...
