Subchorionic hemmorage????

I am 14 weeks today.  Last night, I went to the ER due to moderate bleeding. The baby looked great on the ultrasound; heartrate was 150 something and was moving around like crazy! However, they said the placenta had moved and the bleeding was coming from behind the placenta.  The bleeding has since stopped. I am waiting for my OB to call me back after he looks at the ultrasound pictures.  From what I've read, the placenta can't move so I'm thinking they mean it detached slightly. Subchorionic hemmorage or hematoma? They said it was not placenta previa. The ER staff just read what the radiologist wrote so I felt like they really didn't know much about it. They were very vague and couldn't really answer my questions. I can't wait for my OB to call me back so I can get some answers.  In the meantime, if anyone has any info or experience with this, I would really appreciate it!

I know it's not uncommon and as far as I know there isn't (at least usually) a risk to the pg.  Some OB's may order at least temporary bed rest.  I don't know much about it at all, but I know someone that had it with her twins early in her 2nd tri and her pg is progressing well, she's due at the end of March.

I was diagnosed with a moderate in size SCH at week 10 (or 11?), after a trip to the ER with heavy bleeding. I was put on modified bed rest, pelvic rest and my ob visits were increased to every 2-3 weeks. At our 20 week ultrasound, we were told that the SCH is no longer visable on the ultrasound and I am now considered to have a healthy pregnancy! It's hard to not look, but I really recommend not doing too much research on it via dr. google -- many times these do resolve on their own. Good luck, I will be sending positive thoughts your way.

I was in the ER with heavy bleeding at 12 weeks and was told that I have a SCH.  It was shrinking at my 13 week u/s (haven't had it measured since).  I spotted brown for 3 weeks and have had no bleeding/problems since.  I know it's still there -- it was visible on another u/s but should be 'resolving' at this point.  I'm hoping it will be gone at my a/s.  The vast majority of them resolve on their own by 20 weeks -- usually forced to reabsorb or bleed out by the growing baby.  It's unusual for them to cause any issues - my OB said that he's never had a patient have complications from one.  Just take it easy - pelvic rest, etc.

I'm interested to find out what your OB says as well. I had what I would describe as heavy bleeding at 14 weeks. (Docs might call it moderate. It was several gushes of bright red scary blood). The ER confirmed me and baby were okay, but could not find the source. The next day my OB could not determine the source either. She said, "sometimes it just happens." I'm on pelvic rest until further notice and restricted from exercise. I'm still spotting light brown and hoping to never see that bright red blood again.

Please keep us posted. I know it's scary, but knowing baby is okay should be a relief.

My OB didn't see my SCH in the ER when she did the u/s.  It was only found during my NT scan the following day using the fancy super sensitive machine.  I they can be really hard to see unless they are large.  Mine isn't large at all, even though I bled a ton, so I don't think that amount of bleeding correlates to size.

So I went in today for appt with OB. She explained it much better. I guess it is like a blood clot. My placenta is low and the hematoma is right next to the placenta, right on the edge of the cervix. It is about the size of a golf ball. She doesn't think it should be an issue. She said the majority of the time it bleeds out or is reabsorbed into the body. I am having another ultrasound next week to check on it. In the meantime, she said I can resume most normal activities, but avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting not going to be easy with a 35 lb. 2 year old
