how would you pronounce this name?

for a girl name I'm set on Melani. i pronounce it like meh-la--nee. so it sounds kind of hawaiian when i say it like this. or i say it like donalds trumps wifes name melania but with out the a in the end. some people pronounce it like the way i say it. but i think some people will say it like mel-lah-nee. so I'm wondering would most of you say it like me or like melanie? thanks

I would say Melanie. Why not spell it Meilani? I know it is more "u-neek" but I think it would thwart at least some of the "Melanie"s.

I read it as a youneek spelling of Melanie. Melanie is my FN so the way you want it pronounced would have not crossed my mind. I liked PP suggestion of Meilani or maybe Mailani for May-lah-nee.

Yep, I would pronounce this like Melanie. And it would get annoying, IMO, to have to always say, "No, it's me-LAH-nee."

I can't really think of an alternate spelling that gets that pronunciation across well.

I have a friend whose middle name is Meilani (spelled this way).  Her mom is from Hawaii.  If you use that spelling, I think the pronunciation and origin should be clear.

I read it as Melanie without the e which looks misspelled. What about Leilani? I'm not sure I like Meilani, it looks made up. I have found on a couple sites that say it's a legit name (not sure how reputable they are). One says it may be a Greek variant of Melanie and another says just it is a variant of Melanie.

I would say meh-la-nee, However I imagine her teachers will look at the roll call list and call her Melanie, at least the first time. Not really a big deal in my book, but it could get annoying.

For the pronunciation you are looking for I would picture it to be spelled Malani (kinda in the same vein as Malachy).

I would pronounce it "may-lahn-e" (e= the way you would pronounce the letter "e").

I would pronounce it Melanie. This reminds me of two girls I knew in school called Lindsey and Lindsay. God would they ever get angry when people mixed them up lol.
