Holiday Party with Drinks?

Good morning ladies.

My DH and I have been TTC for a few months and I got my BFP yesterday morning 16dpo. Yeay! My dilemma is regarding my work's Holiday Party on 12/7. My DH and I are are connoisseurs of wine; and even were married in a vineyard. Obviously, no more wine for me for a long time. We don't plan on telling anyone until the end of January. What should I do if people ask me why I'm not drinking? I work for a pretty small company and I'm sure someone will notice. I've heard about drinking club soda with a lime... Thoughts?

Thanks everyone and have a happy Thursday!

SG

EDIT: Thanks for all the suggestions ladies! DH is on board for double fisting! :)

Gingerale looks like champagne in a glass. Add cranberry juice or orange juice and it looks like a cocktail. All you need is a pretty glass and a garnish. Unless your coworkers are sniffing your drinks then no one should be the wiser.

They won't ask you if you have a drink in your hand.

Dh & I went out for the night before Thanksgiving and I ordered a cranberry/spite.  No one noticed and it looked like I was drinking- and it tasted good!  Also see if they can make you any virgin drinks- usually the bartenders are pretty good at keeping it quiet.  Congrats!

I have to be honest with you it's going to be tough.  Especially if people know you like wine because you can't really hide that.  Can you say you've been sick and are on antibiotics?  Me not drinking was a dead giveaway last time I was preg.  I'm skipping all of my Christmas parties this year because if I'm not drinking people will know immediately.

I'm in the same boat as you just got my BFP yesterday!!!!  So Congrats!!!  I have holiday parties also coming up and I just plan on drinking ginger ale. Wine is tough but say you drank too much wine the night before.  I also work for a small company and I figure once they all get tipsy they won't be bothering me anymore :)

I agree with this, it worked with my last BFP at a St Patty's Day party...

my company party has a tradition of all the department heads doing a round of shots together - THAT'S gonna be hard to get out of!

This.  I don't really drink anything besides wine.  Its a dead giveaway to my friends and family when we are out to dinner or at a party and I don't have a glass of wine in my hand.  Last week I ordered a seltzer and cranberry at dinner and my Mom immediately knew I must be pregnant.

The only things that may have worked for me was saying I was being the DD that night so DH could have a couple of beers or saying I indulged a bit too much the night before.

Get a glass of wine. Take pretend sips and have your H take real sips when no one is looking, or poor a bit down the drain when you go to the bathroom.

Having an ACTUAL drink in my hand is the only way to fool some of my extremely nosy relatives. Accepting a glass of wine is a surefire way to throw them off.

Nothing like a mocktail! But I agree, most people won't question it if you have a drink in your hand. I say either go to the bar alone and order a virgin drink, or if you have to, get a real drink and just fake it! I did that a couple times and no one noticed... we were even sitting at a table. I just pretended to take drinks and DH drank it for me. =)

Make a mock-tail, put ginger ale in an empty, cleaned out beer bottle/can, tell people you're the DD, say you're on pain meds/antibiotics.  It really isn't that hard if you think about it.

Just carry a glass of wine around. Sounds weird, but when you go to the bathroom, pour some down the sink, without anyone noticing of course.

If it's busy enough, leave your glass somewhere and go get another of a different kind. Yes, this is wasteful, but if you're really worried about getting noticed, it's good cover. And really, how much are they expecting you to drink? Also, you can sip without really taking in anything. Again, sneaky but it works!

I got my BFP yesterday too and my Christmas party is Friday. I've decided to pretend I'm sick.... if I don't drink people will suspect something is up for sure and I feel its way to early to have everyone know. I also wasn't that keen on going anyway so I don't feel like I'm missing out at all.

When I attended a friend's wedding, (with an open bar), I knew everyone would be questioning why I wasn't drinking. I just carried a glass of wine around with me. Nobody even paid attention that I wasn't really drinking it. Especially once everyone else got a little tipsy.

DH and I just drink the same thing.

I take a few sips, but mostly just carry mine around. When his is half empty, we swap glasses, then when his is empty, we swap again.

Make sure to ask your bartender to put your mocktail in a small glass. I have made the mistake of asking for a soda water with lime to fake that I was drinking and they brought everybody little cocktails and mine in a huge water glass. It looked suspicious.

Shots are more tricky to get out of.

This is exactly what I'm doing on Saturday.  My girlfriends and I are getting together for a wine party/cookie exchange.  Everyone that knows me will know something is up if I don't have wine in my hands.  So my plan is to go to the bathroom a lot (not announce it, just go act like I'm checking my phone and quietly slip away) and each time I'll pour a little down the sink.  And then I'm going sit next to my best friend (the only one who knows I'm pregnant) and she's going to occasionally act like its her glass and take drinks.  It's not going to be easy but I think it's doable.  Good luck!
