A lot of people forget that a lot of what Christmas currently is (Santa, snowmen, reindeer, etc.), is there for children. Do I enjoy Christmas lights? Yes. But I realize that, deep down, it is really for the children. And children like blowup displays.
This is part of why my parents Griswold-decorated their house for years - for young children to drive past and enjoy in wonderment. Our house, growing up, was quite popular and our street would see a sudden influx of drivers each winter. It brought joy to us to see everyone (children especially) come past our house. Though we never had any blow-up characters.
I guess my (day early) FFFC is that I really don't want to put up lights or the characters this year. I feel like Scrooge. IF has stolen my joy and I don't feel like putting up anything - even a tree. I know I will end up doing it, but it is not a priority right now.
