Emilia?

I always wanted to name my daughter Amelia or Sabrina. Now I found out I am having twins I can have both named but I recently came across the spelling of Amelia as Emilia and I think I like the "e" spelling cause her NN could be Emmy and both my DH and I work in TV so it's so cute! Am I damning her to a life of spelling her name?

She would probably have to spell it, but it is a legit name.

Emilia
GENDER: Feminine
PRONOUNCED: e-MEEL-yah (Italian, Spanish, Polish)   [key]
Meaning & History
Feminine form of Aemilius (see EMIL).

I would probably just use Amelia, but that is because I dot like Emmy.

I like it and we considered it. It was one of my great-grandmother's first names. She was from Germany.

We're thinking of naming the baby (if a girl) for my grandma Millie and DH's grandma Jane, but we didn't want to use Millie or Mildred. We're going with Emily  but I really considered Emilia. DH didn't like it.

Congrats to you!

I like the name.  And I am not sure if I am alone in this (or if this is even correct) but I would pronounce Amelia and Emilia slightly different.

To me:

Amelia= Ah- meel-yah

Emilia= Eh- meel- yah

I do think she might have to spell her name for people, but I don't think that is such a big deal.

Emilia is not the same as Amelia.  They are two different names pronounced differently.  I like either though!

We have an Emelia.

Noticing it's becoming more and more popular.

One of my customers at work is named Emilia.

Most of the time we call her E-melia.  Sometimes it comes out as A-melia or Ah-melia.  Oh well.

Nicknames are Millie, Emmy (FIL does this and we don't really like it), Em.

I have my own weird one and call her Meeley/Mealy. haha

Didn't read the replies so I don't know if this was already mentioned. The two names are not the same. They are not only spelled differently but they are also pronounced differently.

Amelia is uh-meal-ya.

Emilia is A-meal-ya.

I am not picky about nn's...I think if you like Emmy, go with Emmy for either name, but pick the name you want with the correct pronunciation in mind.

These names with same nn is also on my list...I went to a website that pronounces the names for you to hear. I do like both, but Amelia more.

I've noticed this question (Amelia vs. Emilia) come up a few times on this board. That being said, I love both names. It depends which pronunciation you prefer. I slightly prefer Emilia because it's a family name for me.

I like both Amelia and Emilia but prefer Amelia since I'm over the nn Emmy. I love the nn Millie! I don't think she'll have many spelling problems. I'm seeing Emilia just as much as Amelia lately.

I like both and have considered both spellings.  I think its a personal choice....maybe try typing out her full name with both spellings on top of your resume to see which one stands out more. I personally love to see the letter 'E' inital...

Good Luck!

I prefer Emilia and like PPs have said, pronounce it differently than I would Amelia.

I like the NN Emmy but to be entirely honest the idea of using it because you and your husband work in tv made me throw up in my mouth a little :)
