Evening primrose oil?!?!

I am 38 wks pregnant with baby #4 & I've never done this before, but I'm so ready for this baby!  Lol.   I have been dilated since 35 wks & 50% effaced as well, but apparently this little man is content :).  I went in on Monday for my 38 wk ck & I'm still 50% but almost dilated to a 4 & dr says I'll see you sometime this week, why do they say these things?!?!? 

So long story short my cousin told me to try primrose oil, I am reading online that you can take it orally & then put the capsule in your vagina at night....that kinda freaks me out!!  Anyone done this?  Is it effective?

The end of pregnancy always sucks. I too hate when doctors say that... they get your hopes up just to sit around and wait. I've never tried primrose oil, kinda freaks me out, but I guess it could be worth a shot. Walk a lot, do some yoga, warm tub, glass of red wine... those are more my style. GL!

I did EPO last time around orally by capsule and will again starting tomorrow.  If you are not ready to go into labor, it will not put your body into labor, but it is an herbal remedy that can help your body to prepare and has been noted to help dilation when you are dilating.  

ETA: If your doctor can predict when you will be going into labor, send him and his crystal ball my way ;)

Thanks for the tips :).  Haha yeah, he kept saying your so ready for labor I'm on call all weekend!! I kinda just laugh...bc he totally just jinxed me now I'll go to 40wks!!  

I had my first baby girl  1day before my EDD, then my son came 10 days before my EDD & then my last baby girl came a week early but I was induced, I'm not against doing that again, but prefer to go into labor this time bc it's our last baby, so I'm trying to "enjoy" it :).   

Another question I got the 500 Mg capsules how many a day do I take it says like 6/day on the bottle??!

I typically start at 500-1000 per day I think.  I think the max I took per day was 2000 mg

My midwife recommended 1000 mg twice per day. I haven't started yet because DH isn't home this week, I had some spotting the other day, and I just DON'T want to promote anything until he's home, and LO is full-term.

I had read an article that said that epo  takes 10-12 weeks to show results in elasticity, which would be where it would help with cervical dilation.

My midwife recommended 1 pill in the morning, 1 in the afternoon and 1 inserted vaginally before bed.  She said to prick the one you insert vaginally with a pin so the contents are  more easily absorbed by the cervix.  I agree, it's probably not going to induce contractions,  but it will soften the cervix, and that can't be a bad thing!  Oh, and I got 500 mg pills.  Will take 1000 orally (2 pills) and 500 mg vaginally.
