formula question

Other than flour  is there anything that can be mixed with powdered baby formula to be able to "stretch" the can? We've been using flour but it makes the formula too thick and it's hard for anything to come out of the nipple. I would move to the next nipple stage but the flow would be too fast for LO to keep up. I've heard of using cornstarch since it is thinner but haven't been able to find much info on it. Do any of you use it? Not sure if it matters but we use similac.

You shouldn't dilute your formula with anything, even flour. Please stop depriving your child of nutrients and buy another can of formula.

I have NEVER heard of adding anything to make formula last longer. I would think that wouldn't be beneficial to the baby at all. If you are really concerned with the cost of formula, try a store brand version, it's the same as name brand and usually significantly cheaper.

You can get Parents Choice (Walmart) or Up and Up (Target) versions of the Similac for much cheaper.  I would go with one of those.  I have never heard of mixing formula with anything to stretch the can.  That doesn't sound safe/healthy for the baby.

uh, this.....I also can't imagine that is very good for your childs stomach! Poor thing...give that baby the nutrients he/she deserves! Like PP said, switch to the store brand formula if that saves you some money....

I've never heard of mixing anything I and I would be careful...you don't know what type of allergies your LO may have....I would not be adding flour. Plus I wouldn't eat raw flour anyway.....

WTAF?  If you're doing this because you can't afford the formula, my heart goes out to you but you need to find another way to take care of this child.  Like someone else mentioned, use store brands.  Look into aid of some kind, like WIC.  Your baby's system is very fragile.  You can't be screwing around with what s/he is eating.

Please look into some sort of assistance to help you provide safe nutrition for your baby. This is not safe practice, please do not continue this behavior. I hope this is MUD, but in the event that this is a legitimate question...look into WIC, SNAP etc...email the formula company and they will send you formula checks, or purchase store brand versions of your formula. Do not cut it with anything, and likewise do not water it down either, I've heard of people doing this and it is very unsafe.

Sadly, I don't think this is MUD. Store brand formula is significantly cheaper, and depending on your LO's consumption, could cost you less than $20 per week to give your child the nutrition it needs and deserves. If you can't afford this, please get assistance.

Mix it with cocaine.  That way you & baby can be high together.  Also the can will last a long time...or is it the drugs?  I can never seem to remember...

Wow some of you were very rude! I simply asked a question. It's not that we can't afford formula so I don't need welfare or any other help. We only use powdered formula at night and before naps, otherwise we use the liquid kind. The reason for mixing is it makes it more filling and its supposed to help her sleep longer. Since we only use powder formula for that I just wanted to know if there was anything else I could mix with it so the can lasts longer.

How old is your LO exactly? I'm pretty sure you can only "thicken feeds" for the purpose of decreasing reflux symptoms with rice cereal. But I'm not sure what age you can start adding that. It's not to make the can last longer though... Call your pediatrician in the morning and ask this question. I'm confidant he or she will be very clear about what you can and can not do in terms of feeding options.

Here's how it works: you mix the formula according to the can. Period. You don't add crap. Then you feed the baby when they are hungry. Even in the middle of the night. Babies don't sleep through the night. They don't need more filling food. They need breastmilk or correctly mixed formula. If they get hungry, they'll wake up, cry and you'll feed them again. You don't feed your child flour water b/c you want to sleep.

SHE'S NOT LIKELY TO SLEEP THROUGH THE NIGHT EITHER!!!

Being able to afford to feed her formula but choosing your own needs (sleep) at 4 weeks is even worse. Stop cutting your kids food with things her digestive system cant handle.

Now I think it's mud.

Whatthemuthafuck OP... You are a goddamn buffoon.... If you are actually serious... First, you are alarmingly undereducated on feeding your baby... Second... Call your pedi... Third... Do not feed your kid homemade glue.

The End.
