Very random question (well I think so anyway) =)

Okay, so I'm newly pregnant (this is my first) I'm a little over 8 weeks pregnant. Me and my hubby love going out on the boat. Obviously not now because it's coming close to winter (although it's never winter in Florida) =)

So my question is. What is my limit to boating? My due date is in early July and obviously before then (April, May, June) is the times we like to go out on the boat and fish. Will going on the boat all big and preggers hurt me or the baby? Will it cause me to go into early labor? I'm going to be asking my doctor this, but I don't see her until late next week. So I kind of wanted to get some ideas.

Thank you

=)

As long as you are comfortable I don't see why you couldn't go out on your boat. It's basically like riding in a car, right?

I think you will be fine until early third trimester. If you are used to being on a boat then it shouldn't bother you. My concern would be falling because your center of gravity is different. You can always see how you feel and turn back to shore if you feel like it won't work.

See what your doctor says, of course.

I think you'd probably be fine - you would want to make sure you have a place to sit, and you probably should wear a lifejacket, but as long as you're not going, like, a full day's distance from shore, I don't see why it would be a problem.

As long as you aren't going over wake and bouncing down too hard, I would think it's fine.  I went on a pontoon boat when I was 33 weeks with DD.

I was almost born on a boat! Granted my mom was a few days over due so I don't know why she was at the lake but still...lol! Anyway, I think as long as you are careful when moving around because your balance is off and you don't go full throttle over choppy water you should be fine.

you should be fine if you're early in your third trimester (although it never hurts to call your Dr first) you might have more of a hard time balancing? or it might make you sea sick more easily? those would just be too concerns I would have but there are ways to obvioulsy deal with that :)

We have a boat as well, but I'm in PA so it is already winterized.  I think you are fine on the boat as long as it isn't too choppy and he goes at a nice and slow speed.  The general rule is that if you are used to doing something you should be able to continue to do it, HOWEVER, I wouldn't do anything in the first and second trimesters that bounce you around too much.  If you are still concerned, ask your doctor!  Good luck!

This. I live on a lake in the Adirondacks (upstate New York) and we use a boat (we have a pontoon and a motor boat) during the season's which allow it as a mode of daily transportation. 95% of the time I wouldn't have a problem, but we have been in a situation when we get caught in a storm in the motor boat and get bounced around like nobody's business. I am like, literally airborne, bouncing up and down on the seat from the rough water. So PERSONALLY I will be checking the radar before I find myself in a situation like that while pg. Have fun on your boat with your man and maybe just keep an eye out for any stormy weather :-) There is nothing like those lazy days on the water, what a great way to enjoy your final months of being just husband and wifey.

I think you would be fine.  Dh & I own a pontoon with 2 other couples and we go out every single weekend in the summer (course no drinking for me this summer :) ) but I plan on going out like normal as long as I feel up for it.  We have an awning (sp) and we go to sand bars as well as float (Mississippi River).  So I'd ask the doc but I'd bet you'd be fine!
