Tell me your (positive) induction experience.

My doctor would like to induce me within the next two weeks.  It is due to the baby's size.  The baby IS big, my first was BIG and the delivery was traumatic for him. I am not looking to hear the lectures about inaccurate sizing u/s's and how inductions lead to c/s's.  I am more looking to hear some positive experiences please.  I know a couple of people who have had smooth, successful inductions and thought I would ask for some on here.

I like to think that I had a pretty positive induction experience. It was 24 hours almost exactly. I did have an epidural, and the contractions came hard and fast, but overall it was better than I expected. I had a healthy baby in the end!

I went in on a Sunday night at 8pm to be induced.  I was already having contractions when I got there but I didn't know.  I was 1.5 cm and 70% effaced.  By 9am Monday morning was 3cm and 80% effaced, had not started pitocin yet.  Then at 10am, I was 4cm and they broke my water.  INSTANT increase in the pain of contractions.  I dealt with the pain for almost an hour before I asked for drugs.  I was given IV pain meds as I waited for the anesthesiologist, they didn't help.  Once he was there and about to give me my first dose, I felt the urge to push.  My son was  born at 11:27am.  So 15 1/2 hours after I got to the hospital my son was here, and the only part that was hard was the pain of the contractions.  I didn't even feel the first dose of the epidural.  I would consider it a very smooth induction and I was induced early due to a growth issue.

I went in on a Sunday morning. Cervidil was inserted at 9 am and again about 4pm because I wasn't dilating much. about 8pm I was finally at 4cm. they started pitocin and broke my water. They started me at 2ml and up'd it to 4ml after 2 hours because my contractions weren't consistent enough. at midnight I got my epi and slept. around 3am I noticed I was feeling my contractions and I had to pee. I had a catheter. I told Te nurse and sure enough, I was dilated to 9.5 and with a push, I was a full 10. after 10 minutes of pushing, DD was here. I was high risk for many reasons. I had GD and a possible placenta acreeta. I couldn't have had a better delivery. Good luck.

I loved my induction, and would do it again. I didn't think it would go as well as it did, and was originally bummed I wouldn't go into labor on my own. I was 0cm and 50% - not very favorable for induction. The miso was inserted at 12:30 pm (was supposed to be at 8:30am...but that's another story), and then again at 4:30pm. I was getting crampy before they placed the 2nd one. At 8pm I was in active labor - the contractions were back to back with no relief. I asked for the epi at 11pm and got it within minutes (perks of having both parents work there). At that point I was 4 cm. They started me on pit because the contractions started getting weird. At 2:30 am I was ready to go, and DS was born at 3:28 after 30 mins of pushing. It was great knowing when to go in, that my Dr. would be delivering, and I still got the surprise of when my baby would be born!

I don't fully understand those who are so against induction. If it's safer for your baby to get OUT then I'm all for it. I was induced a week early because my little guy was ready and I had been dialating quickly. My birth was such a fabulous experience so I have no complaints. My LO ended up being 9 pounds which was 2 pounds bigger than my doctor predicted so I had to push like crazy to get that huge baby out in order to avoid a c-section. If you trust your doctor, do whatever they suggest :)

 Good luck to you!

I had a super wonderful induction.  My last doc appointment was Thurs 7/21 and I was already 2-3cm dialated and contracting but I didn't know it.  My doc insisted I go into the hospital and have her that night, but my induction was scheduled for Monday 7/25 and I had my reasons for wanting to wait till that day to have her.  Either way, I made it through the weekend much to the surprise of my doctor, never feeling contractions, water never broke, nothing.  Monday morning, I went in for my induction at 5am, already at 5cm, they started me on pitocin.  10am, broke my water, turned my pitocin all the way up.  by noon, I was 9cm and had gotten my epidural, almost too late.  at 2pm, I was at 10 and ready to push (my last facebook update lol), she was born at 2:27pm.  my brother literally ran smack into my doctor at the hospital entrance (doc running in, brother going out to smoke), by the time my brother came back in, they were announcing that I had her.  I did have a forceps assisted delivery because she was almost too big (7.8 lbs but I'm pretty little), and I tore pretty badly, required a lot of stitches and had to be on iron pills for 2 months due to the blood I lost.  But all that, I would do it all again.  I was back on my feet by 6pm that same night.

my induction was so pleasant! i went into the hospital at 5 am with my husband, they set up my pitocin and epidural. we played the waiting game for a few hours, around 5 pm i started to push and it was great! my husband, the nurse, doctor, and i were all chatting and having a good time in between pushes! haha. then our precious little girl came out and we enjoyed the rest of our stay :) it was perfect! don't let anyone scare you or tell you inductions are horrible because mine was just peachy. i had to be induced due to pre-eclampsia.

I don't personally have an induction story but my close friend who just had her baby had a great induction experience.  Seriously her labor lasted a total of maybe 4 hours and she says it was just really easy.  Now I will say she is in awesome shape so I'm sure it helped with pushing, etc.  But she had a good experience.  GL to you!

I was scared of induction because I thought I would end up with a c section and always thought inductions took forever. My induction was fine. They started pitocin at 630 am....I was pushing by 1230 pm. I thank God I was induced, I was a week overdue and my baby wa 9 lb. 4 oz....we had no dea he was that big. I hate to think if I waited another week! Don't be scared at all....I was actually on the pitocin for awhile before the contractions got to the point of being too painful. You will do fine. Good luck!

I was induced w/ both of my girls because I was overdue. I felt both were positive experiences, DD1 just took a while.

#1 - I had a Dr appt on monday morning - 41 wks 5 days. I was fingertip dialiated at my appt. Dr had me go in at 7pm that night. Got cytotech (sp?) overnight 2 or 3 times. We started pitocin at 6 am. I really didn't do anything, I didn't feel any contractions. My Dr. gave me the option of going home and trying again on Thrus night/Fri. But, I opted to stay. They shut off my pitocin after 8 hours (2 pm). I had cytotech again overnight on Tues. We started pitocin again about 9 am on Tues. My water broke on it's own about 11 ish. I ended up getting an epi, pushed for an hour, but didn't feel any contractions, and didn't seem to be doing much. Dr. ended up using vacuum, DD1 born at 5:40 pm on Wednesday.

#2 - At 11 days overdue I had a Dr. appt at 10:30 am. The previous week I was 3 cm dilated, 60% effaced. There wasn't any change at my visit that day, I was still 3cm, 60% so Dr. had me go in at noon. They started pitocin about 1:50. I had some contractions, but not anything that bothered me until about 5:15pm. I labored until about 7pm, then asked to have some pain meds - I got neubain (sp?) about 7:45, I was 7 cm at that point. Water broke at probably 7:50. DD2 was born at 8:04pm. I pushed 4-5 times. Very quick.

I was induced at 1 week overdue due to low fluid.  I went in 1 week over in the evening and they did a "pre-induction" of cervadil (I was 1 cm dialated).  I started having contractions that night.  At 6:30 am the next morning, they started me on Pitocin (I was 3 cm dialated by then).  I had an epidural around 10 or so.  I was 10 cm by about 4 p.m. and had DS at 8:15 p.m.  I pushed for a looong time but I don't believe that had anything to do with the induction.

I was scheduled to start Cervidil on a Monday evening, but I started having contractions Monday morning at about 5 am. Went into the hospital at about 9, when they were 5 minutes apart. I was 2 cm and 70%. Broke my water at 4 cm at about 3 pm. Contractions started slowing so hooked me up to the pit at about 6 pm. Held out about another hour and then got the epidural, which was about the best decision I ever made. lol I was able to nap at that point. Started pushing at about 11 pm, and Mr. Man was born at 1:15 am on Tuesday. Kind of a longish labor, but he is my first. Anyway, I was terrified of the Pitocin and the epidural and all the risks that go along with it, but it was all fine and I consider it to be a good experience.

I will spare you my induction story since it was horrible and share this instead;

My best friend was induced with both of her boys.  She ended up quickly delivering two healthy, large babies drug free with minimal tearing and a quick recoveries both times.  Her kids were 9 and 10lbs.

Almost the same exact experience for me, except less time.  First time mom - delivered in 12 hours from the time I was induced.  I had a great experience, wonderful nurses.

My induction was great.  Went to my 38 wk appt. and my blood pressure was high and rising.  My dr. was on vacation (go figure). Went over to the hospital for observation & they wanted me to stay overnight and do a 12 hr. protein test.  Well 6 am rolled around and they wanted to induce.  Got pitocin at 8 am water broken at 10 am epi. at 11 am and a baby at 1:36 pm.  I pushed for a total of 38 mins. The hardest part was getting LO to stay in birth canal.  He only weighed 6 lbs 6 oz. so you're experience will be slightly different on that front. But all in all it was great.  FTM and I was terrified of going in to labor.

I was induced at 4cm's the day I had a planned repeat c-section scheduled but due to the fact that I was 4cm's we went for a vbac.  It was awesome!

Got pitocin at 10:30 am,water broken at 11:30am, contractions by noon, epidural at 1pm and started pushing at 2pm.  After 1 hr and 15 mins of pushing I delievered an 8lb 30z baby boy.  For me it was an amazing experience....but I think the key was the 4cm's I was already dialated.  He was still at -1 when I went in for the induction.
