Contractions when standing/active

Hey Ladies-

Is anyone else getting contractions when they stand up or are active for periods of time, only to have them decrease and stop when seated, relaxed or laying down?

I can be standing, doing light activity like cooking or washing dishes, and my contractions will increase until they are only three to five minutes apart and about 45 seconds to a minute long. Today it has gotten to where they can be painful, like period cramps (or feeling like you have to poo). I have also had waves of nausea and diarrhea (TMI, sorry).

I will go sit down with my pitcher of water, and the contractions will decrease in intensity and slow to a stop within about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, drinking all this water makes me have to get up to pee every hour or so, and so the cycle of contractions is triggered again.

I saw my OB for this on Wednesday, and I am going back tomorrow because the Nifedipine prescribed, and boosted to max dose this morning, is not still stopping this from happening.

Anyone else have this?? I am hoping these are just Braxton-Hicks from hell, and not actually pre-term labor.

This is text book BH contractions. Your OB prescribed a Category C drug for this???

Oh great... a dangerous drug on top of it. Thanks for the input.

I would just approach it as a risk-benefit situation that you're now aware of... make sure he explains to you why he thinks you're in pre-term labor vs. Braxton Hicks if the contractions are acting just like BH's do?

I had to take a Category C anti-malarial (chlorequin) in 1st trimester of my last pregnancy, and DD is perfect. The risk of not taking it was worse than the risk of taking it, and so I took it. I was nervous but everything was fine.

I had this at week 35-56.  The doctor just told me to rest as much as I could until I hit 37 weeks.  So I did (I stay at home with my other kids and got sitters as much as I could), and now I am 39 w and 5 d!  The rest really did the trick.  Good luck and take it as easy as you can.

I've been having Braxton Hicks contractions like that since 19 weeks.  Around 25 weeks they started to get really intense.  I have avoided bed rest or anything like that, but probably because I now sit at work (teaching...kind of tough).  It helps a ton.  Pretty much every time I go from sitting or laying to standing I get a BH.  If I walk a lot I get them as well.  Mine are not that regular, and I've managed to get them to only 4 or 5 an hour.  I find that I really can't lift much of anything and exercise has unfortunately been off the table for a long time for me.  Hopefully everything goes well for you!
