Vacation to Cuba at 20 weeks... looking for travel tips.

I'm going to Cuba in January, when I will be 20 weeks. I have already got the okay from my doctor. She just said to get some compression stalking and to get up every hour on the plane.I'm just wondering if anybody has any travel tips, they can be specific to Cuba or just travel in general. Any help would be appreciated.

dont drink tap water, make sure none gets in your mouth when showering, and when your brushing your teeth, use bottled water. Will you be at a resort? I went to the dominic republic in april, and got some bad food poisioning/stomach virus/e coli from a waiter passing out tap water. Don't take it, and ask for bottled water. I was throwing up and had diarrhea for 2-3 weeks. Make sure all your food is cooked all the way, and no sushi.

Yes I will be at a resort. I never drink anything but bottled water when I'm not at home, so shouldn't be a problem. I've read to make sure the cap is on. Since at some resorts the waiters just refill the plastic bottles.

Make sure you drink a lot of water, even if it means that you have to get up 20 times to pee on the plane! An aisle seat may be preferred for that reason.

I just traveled at 24 weeks and it was no different than traveling when not pregnant.

Don't forget that Coffee, lemonade, ice, iced tea, etc is all made with local water.  I made the mistake of drinking a half cup of coffee on my last trip and I was not good for like 6 hours...

If you get a window seat, offer it to the guy on the isle seat. You're gonna need to get up to pee/stretch, and often that means waking the guy on the inside isle seat up. I made this mistake on the way to and from mexico in October when I was about 18 weeks.

If you're going to an all inclusive resort, order your drinks directly from the bar, make sure you clearly state you want NON ALCOHOLIC and WATCH them make it. Question what they put in your drink if you need to, and get rid of it if you are worried. While in Mexico, I pretty much just ordered "something with no alcohol" all the time. Usually it was fine, but some of the bartenders were ignorant a-holes and looked at me like I had 3 heads. I didn't look obviously pregnant, but whats it to them if you don't wanna drink??? At one point, I was in the lobby bar, and asked for something non alcoholic. There was another resort worker sitting at the bar across from me. I WATCHED the bartender grab a bottle of rum and make like he was gonna dump some into my drink in front of this other guy. The other guy gave him a look and shook his head, so he put the rum down, but holy crap. A-hole. I didn't feel the need to explain to every single bartender that I was pregnant. This all being said, my sister in law went to mexico at 20 weeks pregnant just after we did, at a totally different resort, and said she had absolutely no problems at all. Just be careful :)

Drink lots of water and have fun!

I don't know where you live or how far from Cuba you are... I had about 30 hours of flights and car rides in an international move at 20 weeks. I really didn't look that pregnant, but I dressed up my bump so I did... you should be able to get great treatment from the flight attendants if they know you're pregnant :) you'll definitely want an aisle seat so you can walk around. Drink lots of water.

I just flew home at 22 weeks and didn't feel any different flying from when I was not pregnant! I had a 4 hour flight and a 2 hour flight and I didn't need to get up during either, I was surprised I didn't have to pee during the four hour but I felt completely fine after both.  I even lifted my own suitcase into the over head bc nobody could tell I was preggo and I felt weird asking for help.

I just got back from Guatemala and I was 20 weeks when we left. I would just take something for your nose while on the plane. It tends to get stuffy on the plane - I've noticed much more than usual. I use vicks to just keep my nose from getting too congested and uncomfortable.

Def make yourself look pregnant.  Everyone loves a pregnant woman.  Maybe you'll get into a first class seat that way :)  Either way, book an aisle seat to be able to get up and walk around every hour even if you don't feel you need to.  Its for your circulation.

Do some research to see if they have a doc on site at the resort or where the closest OB would be just in case...and bring copies of your chart and stuff from your OB, again, just in case.  And put a translation app on your smart phone if you don't speak the language.  Have your OB prescribe stuff now that they think you may need for travel.

I'm sure you're already watching what you and drink.  Have a great trip!

Thanks... so many great tips! I never thought of dressing up the bump, great idea. And the Vicks, I will most definitely be getting some, as I already have found pregnancy has given me a permanently dry stuffy nose. I will be seeing my OB and will ask for a copy of my chart as well... you've all been so helpful.

Thanks so much!!
