allergies and pregnancy

I am a 16 wks and 3 days pregnant and have been dealing with stupid allergies since I was about 6-8 wks pregnant.  I have never had allergies in my life and it really sucks.  It doesn't help that the building I work in is old, has had a leaky roof w/ mold issues, the ventilation sucks and the windows do not open.  BUMMER!!!  In addition, I have 3 dogs and a cat, to which I have never had a problem with UNTIL.......I became pregnant!! My pregnancy would be WONDERFUL if I didn't have to deal with this.  Is there anyone else out there who has been dealing with the same issue? If so, what do you do for comfort?  I already have an air purifier.  I had a humidifier but dumped it because it was too old.  I have a new one coming in the mail.  Any extra tips or tricks would be super helpful and I am literally going bonkers over here.

My allergies are pretty much year around. the allergy meds i took before are not on the safe list. just about the only safe allergy med is benydral (?). and that knocks me out. the only thing i can do for my nose is saline spray to rinse out my nose daily. if i do something that i know is going to affect my allergies i use the spray right before and then right after and that helps alot.

If you have congesstion drink LOTS of water. I dont take a lot of meds while I am pregnant but if I have it bad I will take regular Sudafed. You would be surprised how much water will help. And a himidifer is a must.

I've had terrible allergies since I was a teenager (and they seem to be worse now that I'm pregnant). I rotate zyrtec and claritin depending on the season, and my OB was fine with me continuing to take either.

I take Zyrtec every day.  10 mg.  My OB is fine with it.  I would be completely unable to function without it - I have skin allergies and break out into hives.  Medications that are rated "C" have no studies that shown them to be safe or unsafe.  Which is the majority of medications because there aren't a lot of pregnant women signing up for medical trials.

I take Zyrtec nightly which is pregnancy safe.

Last pregnancy, my random allergy to only one of my dogs got so bad that Benadryl stopped working so my midwife put me on Vistaril.

If you're allergic to your dogs and cat now, give your bedroom a good cleaning and don't let them in anymore (if you currently do).  Sleeping and breathing in dander all night is a great way to get really congested.  When cleaning, wear a disposable face mask.  Sleep with your head elevated.  Any congestion you might get in your chest will usually start in your nose and leak on down into your chest when you're sleeping.

Good luck!

I take allergy pills on a daily basis; luckily I was given the ok to continue with these during pregnancy.

I'm a Benadryl person. It does make me really sleepy, so I take it at night, and thankfully it seems to hang with me during the day.

Also, try washing your face and washing out your nose. When I'm totally desperate, splashing some water on my eyes and in my nose helps ease the ickiness.
