i phone question/ group message

Hi all,

Im trying to figure this out now.... how do you send a text to a group of people (via i phone) without having to get ALL of the replies?

A friend of mine just sent out a message about her new baby and now Im getting about 20 replies from people I dont know all telling her "Congrats"

Considering Im 5 days overdue, I think Ill be having my baby within a day or two and Id like to send a group text, but I dont want to annoy everyone with all the replies from my cousins/ friends/aunts/coworkers.

I tried to turn off Group Messaging in settings and it didnt seem to do a thing ( I sent a test text out and everyone still replied to all.)

HELP!

Nope, I have the same problem. Sorry...hopefully someone else on here knows how to do it but I had the same problem with the phone I had before I got my iPhone.

I hate that feature. I have a crappy old phone so it beeps and recognizes all of the messages as a photo so it gives 3 beeps instead of just one and it drives me crazy!

I don't know how either. Every time I send a group messages everyone gets all of the replies. Hopefully we have a more tech savvy mama on here!

Unfortunately I don't think there is a way for you to do anything about it.  If someone replies to that group message it will automatically go to everyone on the list.  The person replying can opt to only send it to you, but if they just reply that's what happens.

I had a BAD thing happen with that last month.  I was at L&D for my blood pressure and my family was texting me like crazy to see how I was. My husband was home with our kids, so I included him, my mom, MIL, etc in the updates I was sending out.  My Mom was driving my h crazy texting and calling him every 5 min.  The last message I sent out was to say they were sending me home, and my h replied to what he thought was just me (he didn't notice the group thing) "Your fuc*ing mom is here now!" she just showed up at our house and h was annoyed....well, guess who got that message too? YUP. everyone including my MOM. That sucked. So be careful with those group messages!

Oh your poor husband!!!

I think I'd just send out a "Please don't reply to THIS group message so that everyone gets it, start a new message to me only for any congrats or kind words!"

As far as your husband's issue, he would just have to compose a new message to you as opposed to just responding to your text. That won't stop him from getting everyone else's replies, but they won't get his.

But no, there's no way to keep everyone from getting all replies unless everyone composes a new message to reply, rather than just responding to yours.

Or, you can send a separate message to everyone. Or email?

I hate group messaging. Instead I type out the message but copy it before sending and then I can send it to people individually by pasting it in instead of having to retype it to everyone separately.

I dont believe you can disable it but I would prefice your text with something stating its a group text and to please reply to you individually or in a new message?!? People who don't have iphones dont know its a group text. When I get them, I open a new message and respond to the sender one on one, unless of course I know every person on the list and I dont mind them seeing my response. I would hate to text a hundred people individually.

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do on your end. It's the people replying to the group message. Basically they're hitting what equates to "reply all" on an email and not just replying to the sender. So, the only thing you can do is send individual messages. It's very annoying and you'd think developers would've solved this issue by now but no...
