What would IF do?

I have been on the IVF path, but have DOR and low AFC. I tend to have anywhere between 3 and 6 follicles. One month I did magically have 9 but that was back in the beginning months. Last month ended up canceling the cycle because I only had 4 follicles and RE wanted more. Today wet in for baseline and had 5. RE says not a great month, but will go if we want to. What would you guys do? Hold out for a higher follicle month? Or go through with it since I never seem to get much better anyways? We are totally OOP too, so finances always play a role as well!

You have 5 at baseline? That's exactly what I have and I think I had 6 in my first cycle. In my first cycle I ended up having 15 retrieved and I certainly expect to get more than 5 by the time of ER. Do you not respond well to stims? Just trying to figure it out since I am definitely moving forward with 5 at baseline.

It is not typical to get 15 eggs with an AFC of 5.

Original poster: what was your cd3 FSH this month? Will your RE cancel you if you don't get 5 follies? There are different extremes of DOR and you may need a doctor who will retrieve with less. At 29 your eggs, even if low in count, should be decent quality. You just need to get them out and test them out. I have never made 5 eggs. I was retrieved 4 times. My quality was terrible but I'd never know that if I was always cancelled.  Waiting one more month at your age is fine but it is doubtful that you will get a ton of eggs on any given month. With the added OOP cost, you can't keep shelling out tons of money on drugs to get cancelled every time. If you can't get your RE to retrieve unless you have "X" eggs, I'd find another doctor who will. They are out there.

Thanks you guys! Yes, our baseline. AFC is 5. We are really leaning towards going for it as long as the blood test looks OK. We will get the results soon.

I would be tempted to postpone and wait for more. I know some get more eggs than their AFC shows, but I don't think that's typical. My AFC was 14 and I got 5 retrieved. I was thinking of postponing if I had 12 this month, as I fluctuate between 10 and 20. I couldn't see moving forward and spending so much money and not having my best cycle. GL with whatever you decide!

Thank You!! Amazing to think I should be PUPO on Christmas!!!

Welcome to the Snow Bunnies!!  And sorry if my post wasn't that helpful!  My RE didn't make it sound like it was that unusual that I had the response that I did last cycle. I was surprised at it and, while they did say it was better than they expected, they didn't make it sound like it was rare.  Now I'm a little worried that I won't have even close to the same response this time.  FX that's not the case!!  And good luck to you as well!!
