Need Mommy Advice

Been FOREVER since Ive been here but I need an opinion.  15 month old daughter has been running a fever off and on.  It goes up to 104.  She's been lethargic most of the day...just wants to snuggle.  Motrin helps but the fever comes back.  She started grabbing her diaper and yelling "poop" (which in her vocab means pee and poop) and crying a little like it hurts.  Should I head to the ER or wait until morning and take her in?

We just went through this a few weeks ago with a 104 fever. My friend is a pediatric ER nurse and she advised me to treat the fever for 24 hours before going in as long as she's wetting diapers as usual.

Strip her to just a diaper, give both Motrin and Tylenol you can give them at the same time, and keep her hydrated with Pedialyte. Forget water and milk. She said push the Pedialyte. If the fever doesn't come down with the meds, if she's not wetting diapers, or if she's still acting lethargic or in pain even after the fever goes down, then take her in. Of course if you feel uncomfortable waiting, then take her. Hope she feels better soon!

If she had only been running the fever I would say wait it out till the morning, but if it's painful when she pee's it may indicate an infection (maybe bladder).  I would take her to the E.R. tonight if it were my DD.

This. And I'm usually in the "you'll live" camp. Nothing else in your post alarms at all and I'd wait, but this does. Something obviously hurts her.

I'd treat the fever and see if it goes away...maybe call a nurse hotline if you're on the fence for their advice. I don't have the number available now...
