If you also have a toddler

What's your bedtime routine for getting all the kiddos down? I'm going to be by myself during this time a lot since DH works random days and times 24 hours a day. While he's home the baby goes down first and then my toddler is given a bath and then put to bed. My toddler is very needy right now with the new baby so when DH is here, he is able to keep DD busy during this time. The baby is typically hungry and ready for bed before DDs bedtime. Are you just keeping your toddler distracted with activities, etc? I feel overwhelmed by this for some reason. Especially when it comes to having to get them both bathed. Thanfully I do t have to now though.

My husband has been working late many nights as well.  Currently, I start bed time routine with the baby (quick water only bath, lotion, change of clothes, nurse) around 7:30 and our toddler's bedtime routine has been starting at 8:30 (last sippy of milk, bath, change into P.J.s, then bed) with a 9:00 bedtime.  The only way to do it on my own is to put him in the childproofed living room with streaming Netflix while I put the baby down.  When I'm done putting the baby down, I have a half an hour with him and I make sure to spend time with him with puzzles and books before starting his bedtime routine.  Netflix as a babysitter is not ideal, but it's the only way.

DD doesn't have a real routine yet but last night I did this: I give DS a bath first and DD is in the bouncer in the bathroom. Then DS "helps" me bathe the baby. I get them both in pjs and I try to read to him while I nurse her. I put her down and once she's asleep he and I read in his bed and I put him to bed. We only bathe her every few days and some nights we will skip his baths too. On the nights DH is home he usually handles DS and I have DD.

I'll be doing this soon myself.  I do most of the routine by myself now.  Kids feed, bathed, in pj's and having snack when DH comes home at 8pm.  by 8:30pm I'm usually nursing DS and putting him down, DH puts DD down by 9ish.  I think when DH isn't here to help, I'll have the same schedule til I put DS down.  I might read with DD while nursing the baby but then have her read in her room or I'll put on Yo Gabba Gabba in our room til I'm done.  I also think I'll put the gate up in the baby's room so DD can't just walk right in.  I imagine this will be difficult for about a week and then we'll all get used to the new routine.  DD's been more clingy with me lately, so I know what you mean.  GL!

I've been alone lately because DH is at hunting camp on the weekends.  If it's a bath night I'll bath them together, get DS dressed then get DD dressed for bed.  After baths we'll usually watch a show.  I've been trying to put DS to bed before DD.  She goes to bed at 8.  We'll usually watch a show while I give him his bedtime bottle.  If I'm lucky he'll go to sleep when I put him in his crib.  However, if he doesn't then he'll hangout with me while I get DD in bed.  After she is in bed I can deal with him again.

Dh travels for work so I've been trying to figure out how to do our night time routines alone... I have had to do it for a few weeks now and I still don't really have it figured out but it is getting better.

I try and nurse the baby around 4-4:30, then go and get the toddler from daycare. If the baby is sleeping when we get home, I will give the toddler a bath. If not, dinner for the toddler while I nurse the baby again. Then bath for the toddler with th baby in bouncer or swing or baby carrier, whatever will keep her calm.

Around 7baby gets put down and then it's books and nighttime for the toddler. She's in bed by 7:30.

The struggle for me is that the baby's witching hour is during the 2hours I have to get DD1 fed, bathed and put down. It's exhausting to say the least.

Looks like I'm the only one who's baby goes down at 9pm, lol. DD1 goes to bed around 7:30pm so it makes it really easy where DD2 goes to bed after. DD2 usually cluster feeds from 8pm-9pm so as long as I get DD1 in bed before 8pm, things work out pretty good.

As far as bath time goes, if DH wasn't home, I would do the same thing one of the pp's mentioned and just put DD2 in the bouncy seat while I am bathing DD1.

I'm sure you'll do just fine!
