Last pre-delivery "grooming" appts

I got my regular hair cut this weekend and went to schedule my next visit for 3 months from now. Turns out, that puts me right around my delivery date - yay! I scheduled the appointment for the week before I'm officially due, but wonder if you guys think that's cutting it to close?

I am having this same dilema after I also got my hair done over the weekend.  I am getting my final haircut mid-February.  It usually takes me a few weeks to get used to the style and my doctor thinks that I probably will not make it to my due date.  I am really more worried about my eyebrows than I am about anything else.  If everything was normal with this preganancy and I did not need the time to get used to the style then I would schedule everything for a week before like you did.

One of the doctors in our practice said no "grooming" from a month before the due date on. I am going for my monthly tonight and I am definitely going to be asking about that again. I feel like if the whole world is going to see my "world" than it is something that needs to be done!!

I think its probably cutting it a tad close. I would, at the very least, try for 2-3 weeks prior to your due date.

I just realized what kind of grooming was being discussed Embarrassed.  I bought an electric shaver that is more gentle than waxing or a regular razor.  It is getting hard to reach everything so I think that DH is going to have to start doing it.  I am too tender to get waxing right now.

I'm getting my hair done tonight and will do my next appt the last week of February. I'm also getting waxed that last week of Feb and a pedi the week before I'm due. I figure 2 weeks in advance is safe for the big things.

Can you explain why?  That is crazy.

I plan to get a trim a month after the first of the year.  I'm also going to keep my toes freshly painted - so I'll probably stay on top of that every couple weeks.

Then my nether regions - hair clippers have worked like a charm, and I'm keeping that up even if I need assistance from my husband.

I wouldn't schedule the "down south" grooming for much closer than a couple weeks before but thats just me.  I've always wanted to get waxed however I just can't get comfortable with the idea of hot wax down there, so trimmers and razors will do and the SO has no problems helping if I need it. Any other grooming I think would be fine up until the end.  I plan on getting a pedi done right before bc my toes are always polished but I usually do it myself, same with my fingernails.

With DD, I had my last hair appt 2 weeks before, and my last wax appt the weekend before.  With this one being a scheduled c-section, I'll probably try to shoot for the same time frame.

My guess is the reason they say at least 2 weeks before is due to infection reasons.  At the hospital where I work, we tell patient's no shaving or waxing before any procedures (knee replacements, C-sections, etc) because they can create small open areas for germs to sneak into as well as your big incision site.  We just "clip" patients (using something like DH uses to trim his beard), leaving slight stubble.  The research leans a little more towards this being true, but isn't 100% convincing.

You know, I didn't intend to imply more than just the hair on my head with my original post but loving the responses...it's another good one to consider!

You should see if you have any places in your town that do "sugaring".  I did it for a while and stopped just to save a few bucks, but am seriously considering it leading up to my due date.  It's not hot at all and is just a ball of dissolved sugar, water and lemon juice that they spread using their hand temperature and pull the hairs out.  It's supposed to be especially good for pregnant women.  I've never been waxed, so I can't compare, but I didn't think it was all that painful.  I mean, they're pulling your hairs out, but you're not really red and in pain.  Any redness goes away in like 30 mins.

If you've never been waxed down south before I would strongly recommend DO NOT DO IT now!!! I've been getting full brazilians for years so my lady bits are used to it, but even I've noticed I'm more sensitive afterwards since I've been pregnant. The first time is pretty rough because your skin isn't used to having that done, and I can't imagine doing it being pregnant (due to being more sensitive). If you're just doing a bikini line wax I think that would be fine, but for anything more as a first timer I'd say no bueno.

Regarding the hair up top Smile I have no idea what to do.... but I definitely have to figure something out as I don't want to look crazy in the delivery photos!

I am a big time groomer and wax often; however, I just read a study about complications that men and women are having now that so many have no pubic hair.  Removing it puts us all at a much higher risk of infection.

Still I'm not sure I can give up the habit.

Is there a way to look good in delivery photos?  I mean, it's quite a work-out and I haven't met anyone that would look good in a photo taken toward the end of a strenuous work-out.
