Dreading 35!

I have been trying now for 6 cycles and no luck. My cycles are very consistent and I am ovulating according to my OPK. Everything I read online is saying there is a major decrease in female fertlity at 35, which I will be turning in 2 months! After 1/2 a year of trying I am thinking it's not going to happen :( So I bit the bullet and made an appointment with the RE for next week. Is anybody else in a similar situation?

I wouldn't let it bother you too much. Yes, generally speaking, a large group of women over age 35 will take longer to get pregnant than a large group of women under age 35. But it's not like a big wall goes up over your cervix on your 35th birthday. Lots and lots of women get pregnant at 35 and well beyond. I turned 35 in June and got my BFP this past weekend.
That being said, after age 35 they do recommend seeing your doctor after 6 months of trying, so I don't think it's bad that you'll be seeing someone soon.
Wishing you lots of luck! Keep your chin up!

This.  Do you chart your temps to know if/when you're even ovulating?  Could be that you're just missing your fertile window.

ETA:  OPK's don't guarantee ovulation.

Yes, I'm over 35. Ditto Chancie about posting on the TTC > 35 board, although it's not super active. You're still on the young side so I wouldn't freak out. 6 cycles isn't all that long in the grand scheme of things. If you aren't temping I'd suggest doing that so you can actually confirm you are ovulating.

TTC since August 2011, Me = 39, DH = 37. CD 3 bloodwork: Normal, HSG 3/29/12: tubes clear, DH's SA 3/29/12: Everything normal. Unexplained IF. Tried Clomid for 3 cycles. All BFNs.BFP 1/6/13. Chemical pregnancy.

Thanks for the encouragement and Congratulations!

Thank you!
jefa is right, if you're not temping, I highly, highly recommend it. It will help you with your timing and will give your doctor a lot of information.

This. I am also rapidly approaching 35 and while I do worry, I try to tell myself that all statistics are averages and my chances of getting KU at 34.5 don't change dramatically when I turn 35.

GL to you OP, I can sympathize to your feelings and I hope you get your BFP soon.

nah. plenty of older ladies here too :)

OP I had my first at 37. I would def see your OB to get some testing done but don't sweat it- it takes a lot of couples well beyond 6 months to get KU-but I would still get OB and a RE involved to do some testing ASAP

Your body doesn't know the difference between 34 and 11 months and 35- it's not a magic number. It's a trend thing, not an absolute (and individuals by definition fall on either side of a statistical trend, anyway). Agree w/ all PP that if you're not at least temping already, get started. That info will help your RE, as well as you. Good luck!

Lurking in from the TTC over 35 board to say that, although there is a good amount of literature that talks about decreased fertility rates after 35, there are also a lot of success stories of older women conceiving and going on to have healthy babies. If it makes you feel any better to hear this, I got pregnant naturally, at 39, after 3 months of sort-of trying. I lost that baby, but got pregnant again a month after my D&C and now have my son. I'm now 41, and throwing my hat back into the ring to have baby #2. When I was pregnant with my son, my oby-gyn said that I was far from the oldest patient in their practice. Women are having babies later in life--it may take some time, or medical intervention, but it can and does happen. Don't let those articles freak you out and make you feel bad. I think that being proactive (charting/temping) and talking with an RE will be a great start--good luck!!!!!
