Dogs behaving badly

Over the past several days, my dogs have begun acting very badly - chewing up pillows and clothes, getting into the garbage, and misbehaving in general.  Nothing major has happened that would be disruptive to their regular schedules.  One of my friends swears that dogs can sense pregnancy and that mine are reacting to that.

Has anyone heard such a thing?

You could be behaving differently and not realize it. I have heard that animals can sense big changes. My animals have been more lovey lately and more "protective" of me and DD.

Do I know for sure? No, but they did the same thing first time around too.

My 2 did not start acting out like that.  They got very clingy.  They follow me a lot.  My cats started to do the same - they will not leave me alone.

I don't think my pregnancy is the reason, but ironically I've been experiencing destructive behavior 1-2 times a week with our dog since just before my BFP.   I think it's because we went to Paris and he has a sitter home with him every day for 2 weeks and then was acting out b/c we were back and going to work.    But it is an odd coincidence with the BFP.     He's only been acting out when we are at work.  Other times we leave him (shorter lengths) and he's fine.

This. I've heard of dogs engaging in more guarding, protective behavior when their owner is pregnant, but not destructive behavior. It's more likely that their routine has changed. Make sure they're getting enough exercise (depends on breed, but they likely need 2 walks a day), play time (doesn't count in exercise) and mental stimulation (try a toy that you can put treats in that they have to work to get it out). You can also try some behavioral techniques for when you leave the house to reduce their anxiety around you leaving.

yes. my friends dog was acting very strange when she was pregnant. he wouldnt leave her side. he was in her face all the time. as she got further into her pregnancy he peed on her bed & pooped on her bedroom floor.

Her vet swears the dog was having anxiety over the pregnancy. He even recommended meds for the dog.

My moms dog is acting differently towards me now. He seems extra mopey and stuff. He barely pays me any attention. He usually cant be away from me when Im around. Its crazy how they sense things!

Nothing has changed in their routine at all in the past several weeks - everything is status quo, except for their behavior.  I have a large fenced-in yard that they have the run of, and they are very, very active.  It's a total departure from the norm.

I have a 4 year old dog, and around the time my husband and I found out we were expecting, my dog started to become really lethargic and not herself. She started to tear up her bed and refuse food to the point where she would make herself sick. So, I don't know if she could sense it, but she def knows a big change is coming!

Yeah my dog doesn't leave me side- I took a bath and she laid right beside the tub til I was done- or at night if she hears any noise she kind of grumbles and barks a little and lays her head back on my belly. <3

Interesting, because I was just commenting to DH tonight that my female dog has been more clingy than ever before! She normally want to be in his lap, but the last few days she follows me everywhere and wants to climb all over me. She is a small yorkie mix so I am tripping over her! I like the affection, but I just wish I could eat my breakfast without her jumping on me- this morning she made me spill my OJ all over! :)
