Throwing up from glucose test

So I was supposed to have the glucose test at 24 weeks but we postponed it to my 28 week visit, today, due to the chaos of Hurricane Sandy. So, today I go in for my appt, I drink the orange drink and started waiting. They took me to see the dr for my appoinment while I was waiting for the hour to pass. As time went on I started sweating, feeling really hot and nauseous. Then just as the dr was listening to the babies heart beat, 45 minutes after finishing the drink, I had to shove him aside and threw up all over the floor :(

Anyone else have this happen to them?

I vomited up the lovely orange drink in the car on the way home from thr dr with baby #1. My appointment was at 4pm and I was so afraid to mess up the test, I didn't eat since 10am. Then I drank the stuff, made it the 1 hour, got my blood drawn, and had to pull over to throw up on the way home. The worst part, I failed and had to do the 3 hour!

So sorry you went through that! I had mine this morning and was touch and go, but I managed to keep it all down. I can't help but think there has to be a better way to test for gestational diabetes than this!!

Well they actually told me that since I had so much trouble with it that now I could just do a fasting test, where I would stop eating at midnight, fast through the night and then get my blood drawn. That sounds much more appealing to me!!

I'm just upset because I wanted to get this over with. They still drew my blood cause I hadn't eaten anything for over 12 hours so they said they'd try to do the fasting test for me that way.

Same with me. I just had to fast. My OB said it is very accurate. I don't quite understand why they don't just do fasting bloodwork over the orange drink, but I wasn't about to argue.

Yes! I made it an hour but started to feel like I was going to pass out as they were drawing my blood. After they removed the needle I ran to the bathroom and threw it all up!

To top it all off, I failed the test by 2 points and had to take the 3 hour. For me, the 3 hour test was way easier on my stomach...not sure why.

I got extremely sick as well. Apparently it happens to 20 percent of the people. I passed, but my number was "borderline" for many doctors- 135.

I got extremely sick but I didn't throw up. The first time my Dr stayed in the room untill they came to draw my blood. I think the only reason I didn't is because they told me if I threw up before the hour I'd have to re do it and they wouldn't even draw the blood.

I am curious those of you who threw up, did you pass? I have heard that those who fail the test have a harder time handling it if your body has trouble processing the glucose, it often presents itself as nausea during the test.
