Night Diapers? Avoiding leaks: help!

So my one year old who weighs 20 pounds, 6 oz, is wearing #3 Pampers cruises all day no problem, but the past week or so he's been waking up having wet through completely. Supposedly this diaper is made for a 16-28 pd baby! Anyone have a suggestion for a better night diaper? Or his pot belly just that big ;)?

We use cloth diapers, but I know lots of people have to size up for night time or buy the night time version of their diapers b/c it is on them for so much longer.

We buy huggies night-time diapers one size up.  It works pretty well.

My girls have been in size 4 Huggies for a few months now. They both weigh around 21 to 22 pounds now. We used those diapers at bedtime until recently when one baby woke in the morning with leaking diapers. Now they both wear overnight diapers, we've used Huggies and Pampers, size 4. One baby still leaked in Pampers overnights but the Huggies are great.

I have been having the same issue. I would go up a size.

Wish I could but DS is in a size 6!

Definitely go up a size. With DD1, we stuck with regular diapers one size bigger at night and it worked great.

DD2 is only 19ish lbs at 14 months and in size 3 during the day, but was waking up with her PJ's and bed soaking wet in both size 3 and 4 after sleeping 11hrs at night. We kept her in her size 3's during the day, but are now trying Pampers overnight diapers in size 4 at night. We're a few days in and so far it's helped a lot.

ETA: Also, sometimes the "fits x lbs" on the box doesn't really matter. Some kids outgrow the absorbency of one size of diaper before they actually outgrow the diaper, especially when they start sleeping through the night.

I always went up 1 size for DD for nighttime diapers.  We've never really had any issues with leaks.  She's in a size 5 I think now at night!

Also, try different brands.  I really like Baby Nature Care for nighttime diapers, and Cruisers for daytime.  THose nature care ones really hold in the liquid!  But don't have great elastic, so I'd never use them for daytime.

My DD is 16m old and by morning will be completely soaked neck to toes if she just wears Pampers OR Huggies overnight diapers.  We have to put a cloth insert inside of the diaper..which works 98% of the time, but she still has some leaky nights.  Honestly I don't know what to do anymore myself!

My lo is the same size as yours, and we use Pampers Baby Dry size 4 at night (Pampers Swaddlers size 3 during the day).  However, sometimes we still have leaks at night, even during times when the diaper doesn't seem that full....I don't know why that happens!! :(  And, I too, have found that the weights listed on the package seem to be a bit "generous" in my opinion....my lo grows out of the size well before he reaches the weight limit on the box.

Going up a size in regular diapers didn't help DS. He'd still wake up soaked and covered in squishy diaper gel. We use Huggies Overnites in his regular size. They swell up a ton when they're wet, though, so go up a size if your LO is right on the edge. We moved DS up to a size 4 in them at around 20 lbs.

We tend to go up a size on Pampers with the weight ranges, but my son is long and skinny.  We've been in size 3 for a looooooong time.  That being said, I long ago switched to Pampers Extra Protection (aka "night/overnight diapers") for nights.  I originally went only a size up and now that he's bigger, I go two sizes up.  They're huge on him, but he will pee out of the size 4s.  You can also try just getting your normal diapers (though Baby Dry are better than Cruisers for large quantity pee containment, Luvs are as well) in a bigger size and using those at night only.  That way, you can always use any leftover ones when he bumps up a diaper size.  If they're not enough to contain it all, try the night diapers.

I've also recently tried the Huggies version of night diapers.  They work fine for us, but are more expensive per diaper.  They're actually cheaper per box, but their box has about 20 less diapers than the Pampers version and is about $5 cheaper.  The Huggies version works fine for us, but I've heard otherwise from other Pampers moms.

Also wanted to add since I'm in the same boat, lessen the amount of liquids he gets before bed time.

We tried an hour before bed time & he was still kind of wet. So we moved to about an hour & a half & he was dry this morning.

size up and use pampers baby dry or

I found that even Luvs extra absorbent will work overnight.

We use size 5 (DS is 32 pounds)  and I switched from baby dry because I was going to save $10 a box with amazon subscribe  and save with more diapers, and it works and no rashes ever. He also wears them during the day or I have cloth diapers/training pants.

I use nighttime diapers and go up a size if that helps.

We use Pampers Babydry all day long.  We use size 3 during the day and size 4 at night and during naps.  She rarely pees through unless she takes a super long nap and drinks a ton before.  She is about 24 lbs and 15 months.
