Elective ultrasound

Are any of you ladies doing an elective ultrasound? I did one at 16 weeks to find out the gender and loved it so much! I am scheduling one for next week. I will be just shy of 28 weeks and am very excited to see my daughter one more time before delivery! We got a deal on the 4D ultrasound for 150 with a CD of the pictures and a DVD of the 15 minute session. I am just worried my daughter won't move enough and we will miss out. It would be a lot of money to pay for nothing! We are still debating if this is worth it because we are strapped for cash. I have made sacrifices in a lot of places to get this money together and know it could definitely be better spent elsewhere but I still want to see her again so badly. I think the video and pictures will be something we can save and show her later on. Have any of you had a 4D ultrasound done at the beginning of third tri? How did it turn out? Do you think it's worth the expense? Anyone else considering it?

Not getting any electives.  Our LO has had more than average U/S already because of problems finding it's heartbeat early on and then will need a follow up scan to check on his or her dilated kidney in another month and a half.

I'm not a fan of the 3D scans because I personally find the images to be really creepy.  Some folks love them and that is totally cool - I just don't want it.

I've already had 8 ultrasounds.  All but 2 of those were 4D.  I'm high risk due to heart defects that I personally have.  I get at least one ultrasound a month.

For me, it's not worth it to do the elective.  I would consider it if I weren't already getting them so frequently, or if I weren't getting the 4D.

Despite the fact that I live in a major US city, there are no places within an hour of me that do this stuff. None of my friends did it, nor do I know of anyone who did it, and I would rather spend the money on maternity photos.

I haven't done anything elective.  I am really excited, though, too, so I understand.  I suppose I think that so many women have had to wait the whole 40 weeks, that I can, too.  Plus, we got to see him at half-time and that is a real gift.

Plus, I'd rather blow that cash on a new-to-me kayak.  Or some cloth diapers.  Or a new set of Oakley's.  Or just put into savings so my leave without pay won't hurt so badly.

But I understand. : )

If you are strapped for cash, I wouldnt do it.  We did one with DD at 30w and it was a major letdown.  I know it's nice to see the baby again, but just remember, you will be seeing he FOR REAL in just a few short months.  Save the money for something else.

We decided not to do these. I'm so excited to see LO again but I figure in 99ish days I'll get to see his sweet face all day everyday! 150 would buy us an important piece of furniture or half of the stroller or tons of diapers/wipes. We're also cash strapped so in the end, decided to skip this.

We had a elective 3D ultrasound on Sunday at 27 weeks.  My OB's office doesn't have the capability, so we decided to try it out.  I thought it was worth it.  We got some great pictures of his face.

Nope, not getting one.  I had a dating one at 8 weeks, our A/S at around 20 and if I get another in the 3rd tri, great.

Honestly, I think it's extremely irresponsible if you are strapped for cash.  Why not save the cash and use towards diapers, wipes or some other baby need or put it towards an emergency fund.

We are doing an elective 3D this weekend (at 28 weeks).  I wouldn't be doing it if we were strapped for cash, though.  I'm only ok doing it because I found a place with a special for $99, which I know we can afford, and because it was one thing DH really wanted to do.

Not doing it this time around. It's super expensive where I live, and I get to see baby at every doc visit, and I see a peri nat as well that does like 45 min ultrasounds.

No, I've already had 5 ultrasounds anyways (since I'm high risk).

If you can afford and want one, then go for it.  If cash is tight, I would wait.

I live in a town of 25k and the only places that do ultrasounds are the hospital, the Imaging center that partners with the hospital and the OB/GYN office.  My dr is not a part of the OB office so the hospital and imaging center are my only options and they have to be scheduled by my dr.  The OB office will not do elective ultrasounds unless you are a client of theirs. Our little one wouldn't hold still at the A/S at 16weeks and the tech said she won't tell anyone the sex if it's before 20 weeks so we don't have the option of another U/S unless my Dr. orders another medically necessary U/S. I would do an elective if it were an option and affordable.

Plus I agree with another PP its creepy looking. I'd rather just wait and see the real deal.

I am getting one on Thursday. I will be a little shy of 24 weeks. We are getting one because the ultrasound tech that performed our anatomy scan was not positive that it was a boy and we want that extra assurance. The cord was in the way. We don't care what we are having but we have about 20 totes worth of girl clothes that would be nice to either purge if necessary. Also, I want to know if I should be buying boy clothes in preparation.

The gender is guaranteed with a 3D and we get 30 minutes and a DVD of all images and video clips (plus unlimited print outs). It was something I really wanted to do with DD but never did it. I am super excited to see the baby again and hopefully see some nice facial shots.

I think if you have the money then go for it but if money is really tight then it's probably better to wait. We weren't sure if we would be getting another ultrasound so we decided to get it.
