Babymoon insurance

My husband and I are going on a cruise to the Caribbean in a few weeks on our babymoon. We want to get insurance so we can be evacuated medivaced if I need medical attention in the US. We keep hitting a wall on getting such insurance because "pregnancy is a preexisting condition". Has anyone had this problem/have suggestions? So far, the cruise company, our insurance broker, and AMEX won't sell insurance coverage that would cover this.

All the travel insurance I've seen specifically excludes pregnancy related issues as a pre-existing condition.

I don't know that you will be able to find it. My friends Dr. wouldn't let her go on a cruise after 24 weeks because she said if something were to happen, there is little qualified staff on board. She also could not find insurance. She sadly had to miss her family cruise, such a bummer! I guess just too high risk, according to the doctor? Best of luck though, and let me know if you find anything. I'm curious!

Lurker:

not sure how far along you will be, but almost all cruise lines will not let you aboard if you will be over 24 weeks at any point on the cruise.

This. You probably won't be able to buy travel insurance.

So you should be able to find coverage up to 28 weeks.  After that point, most companies won't touch it, and if they do, you'll have to pay a pretty penny for it.

i would start here:  http://www.insuremytrip.com/

you can get just an evacuation plan if that is all you are concerned in getting, or full insurance including cancellation.

Good luck!

24 weeks isn't the doctors, it's the cruise ship policies.  You must not have entered your 24th week when you board.  You can't get on a ship pregnant without a doctors note and I don't know any doctor that would lie about how far along you are.   We wanted to cruise for New Years as our babymoon and couldn't cause I'd be too far along.

I am a frequent cruiser, I use Travel Guard.  If you purchase insurance within two weeks of your initial booking they cover pre-existing medical conditions.  MH had a blood clot issue and we booked a cruise, he was unable to go on the cruise.  Just double check about pregnancy.
