Vacationing with newborn, in Hawaii

My husband's best friend lives in Hawaii and they offered to host us whenever we come out. Well, since I'll be on maternity leave for 12 weeks we could go then and I wouldn't have to worry about taking vacation time from work or pulling two kids out of daycare for a week. I just don't know what flying would be like with a newborn and a 2-year old. Has anyone traveled with a 4-10-week old? I'm sure our visit to their house would be no different than me staying at home with the kids because we'd be limited on what we could do (as in going to the beach or out to dinner much) and I'd be nursing. Thoughts?

How far is the flight for you? For me it would be 12 hrs which sounds long to me! We did fly with my niece about 4 hours when she was 10 weeks old and it was super easy...she slept and my sister nursed her on the plane and it was perfect. we went to aruba and even the beach was easy..she slept in the stroller or back and play under an umbrella for most of it, it was perfect!

I just looked it up and it's a 7.5 hour flight, so not too, too bad.

Would DH be going with you?  I flew with my son from GA to TX (only 2 hours) when my son was 6 weeks and it was rough.  More so with all of the gear...and that was just one!  Once we made it to our seat he just nursed the entire time.  I would be scared to fly with a 2 year old and a newborn by myslef for that long but that's just me.  My mom flew to Germany when I was 6 weeks and my brother was 4 and she made it fine.  We were both throwing up at the same time and she was frazzled after but she made it!

Newborns are fairly easy once you have recovered from the delivery. It sounds like a great opportunity. My biggest hesitation would be flying with a newborn during cold and flu season. DS always gets sick after we fly.

I flew from NY to HI with my three oldest when they were 3, 18 months and 3 weeks.  The hardest part was changing diapers.  It really wasn't as bad as I was anticipating.

I haven't flown 7.5 hours bur regularly fly 5.5 to get to my parents house. We've gone around 6 weeks postpartum with each. If you are up for it recovery wise the baby will be easy. Your toddler will be harder but nothing special snacks and a few movies cant take care of.
