Flu getting bad already

Does this worry anyone else? I just read that it's hitting sooner and harder so far. I wasn't too concerned with Christmas parties with family until now. Usually the flu doesn't hit so hard until much later in the season. Now I'm going to be all paranoid. Huh?

Not worried, I've never had the flu and I got my shot. I'm a diligent hand washer, don't touch my face a lot and I wipe down shopping carts. H, my mom and my daughter will also get the shot. If I wasn't having twins we would all skip it.

Eta: we won't be around a lot of people during the holidays either.

Yikes!  No I hadn't heard that.  This is part of the reason I hope the baby stays put until after Christmas.  I just don't know if it's going to be worth the risk, being around all those people...

All three of us got the flu shot, so here's hoping they picked the right strains.

I had my shot at my OBs and the kids had theirs scheduled for the flu shot clinic the following Sat, my husband already had his since he is working at the children's hospital and they gave it to him pretty early on. My daughter had the flu and was very ill, unfortunatley she got it the Sunday before she was scheduled to be vaxed. She had a fever of 104 and I have never seen her that sick ever (she is 8). She tested positive for type b, they hurried and gave my other two the flu mist, and they never got it. My husband and I never got it either. If you had the vax I would't worry. It was really bad for my poor baby, it took a week to get basically over, and she was pretty lethargic and not herself for another week!

ETA: I read your ticker, yeah I would be worried about taking the baby out. I can't imagine how hard it would hit a newborn.

Ya, I've already had the flu.  Had my flu shot in October even.  Not much you can do about it tho; I'm not about to hide in my house.

The doctor told me today that it's even a different strain than they vaccinated for - so there goes my awesome planning with a flu shot! I'd definitely keep a newborn mostly inside or covered up if out and about.

I've had the shot and I wash, sanitize my hands often, so I'm trying not to get too worried yet. On a related note, I've heard that there's a bad stomach bug going around here. Ick! I would very much like to avoid that as well.

I just got my shot today. Just try to stay healthy! Wash hands, get your shot if you haven't, and that's all you can do.

I am not so worried about the flu, but I am really worried about my DD bringing home RSV to the new baby. She was really sick last winter and the winter before.

Me, DH, DS, and grandparents have gotten our flu shots. I'm just worried about others who haven't and like pp said rsv. With DS in kindergarten he is exposed to so much. He's great with washing his hands and his school has very strict policies when it comes to the kids being sick. Still it's worrisome.

Ugh. We just had the stomach flu sweep through our household. I'm pretty sure my SD brought it home from school. It had to be the most awful experience ever. Especially since we only have one bathroom.

I'm definitely getting a little paranoid about flu season. I had everyone who is going to be around my LO when he's born get the whooping cough and flu shots, but it doesn't protect against all strains. And I only get 6 weeks of maternity leave, which means my LO will be super young going into daycare.

I'm not too worried, I had h1n1 while pregnant with DD and we both made it through it just fine. Don't get me wrong, it was miserable, but we survived. Everyone in our house has gotten their shots, so really there is not much else I can do.

This, especially because this is exactly what happened when DS was born and he was in and out of the hospital with RSV for a month when he was around 4 months. Neither of them have had the flu, we've had a stomach bug twice already so I'm hoping that's it for the year, but it's just a luck of the draw I think. Poor DS is on a neb now because RSV so young kind of messed up his system for flu seasons.

Your doctor is wrong.  I watched the national news this morning and they said that this year's flu shot has been proving very effective for the strains going around right now.

So apparently this year's flu season is going to be bad, but the flu shot is a good match for it - so go get it!

I got my shot, husband got his, will get other family to get their before baby arrives....I wash my hands a lot which is really important, but otherwise I am not sure what else can be done.

Expecting our second baby on February 7, 2013. Trusting Him whatever comes our way.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011 at 20 weeks. She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

Nope, not worried. I got my shot as well as my entire family.  There is strep going around here and a lot of viral things that the shot doesn't cover but there isn't much I can do but wash my hands.

Also, I don't think December is too early for the flu to get bad.

I have plenty of other things to stress about...

Oh good!  I did get the shot (as did DS and DH), so I hope it keeps me flu free!
