Type 1 moms

Hello!ive been type 1 for 20 yrs. A1c is 6.3. And I am expecting #2 I'm currently on the Sensor and pump. The other Night my pump malfunctioned and my bs went to 370 and I was spilling ketones! I was able to bolus right away and get rid of my ketones but has anyone had a very high BS w ketones during pregnancy? I'm very nervous! Thanks

I have, and while obviously not ideal, one time high bs and keytones should not harm your baby. I have no idea how far along you are, though if you are far along enough for a heart beat and it would make you feel better, by all means have little one checked on. Otherwise, perhaps mention it to your endo of course and see if they have any suggestions to help you catch this quicker next time, though I know it is very easy to go high when your pump malfunctions.

One high BG is not enough to harm your baby. The risk is when it is high overtime, especially in the beginning. Ketones are alarming, but as long as they cleared up quickly I would not worry. The pump is a lifesaver, but when it fails, it fails bad! I've had a few bad sites here and there, but nothing too bad thankfully.

If your BG was high and ketones present that would not go down over a reasonable amount of time, I would definitely call my doctor.

Congrats on your second! I'm type 1 with my first child 10 weeks pregnant and I've been worried that anytime my blood sugars stray out of that tight window something will go wrong. For the most part my endo tells me that they are more worried about lows in the beginning, but that a high sugar here and there won't hurt the baby. They said if you have high sugars the entire 9 months then there might be more risk of birth defects, a large baby, and of course complications for mom. I'm not sure if you are seeing a specialty doctor for your pregnancy. I am and the nurse and dietician have been great. I hope you are doing better now and wish you the best for a healthy pregnancy.

I have had a couple of really high highs.  So far, everything is okay.  A spike shouldn't cause problems, it's letting it stay high that is bad.

Same as the previous people have said. All we can do is our best and to worry after the fact doesnt help anything. To get it down faster if it happens again I would use a syringe to bolus rather than the pump and in a location I usually do not put my pump (ie my arm) just for better absorbtion.

I went into DKA with my 2nd baby girl (my initial diagnosis as a type 1), and she was/is just fine (a miracle). My BS was 400+ and keytones +4 :o(

A high one here or there isn't too much to get excited about. You caught it and corrected it.
