Burping issues

Lately, my LO has begun to stiffen up when I try to burp her.  We usually do the sitting on the knee but no matter how I burp her she gets ultra stiff and then she freaks out, almost as if having a panic attack.  Is this normal?  I am not sure what is causing this.

My little girl is 14 weeks tomorrow.  Since early on, she would "flinch" and straighten out as hard as a board...as if in pain.  It seemed as though she had cramps in her belly.  She does not do it so much anymore but it still happens. Our doctor was not concerned...said it was probably gas and that she would get used to the feeling of cramps occasionally, or the cramps would lessen as she grew.  So far, so good.

My LO does this, but it's more because he's angry that the bottle has been taken away from him.

What we've done to alleviate this situation is when we take the bottle away to burp him, we quickly slip him his pacifier. I hold it to his mouth for a moment while I stroke his cheek to calm him with, and then he'll relax enough for me to burp him.
