Sleeping too much?

My LO sleeps A LOT during the day. He wakes up to eat and when he has a dirty diaper. (about 8-10x per day/night cycle) When he's awake which is probably only about 3-4 hours total a day we do tummy time and I make sure we are interactive. I swear he wakes after 2 1/2 hours like clock work. I change his diaper, feed him, and he will either pass back out or be awake for a bit(rare). Is this normal? I have a pediatricians appointment on Friday and I'm going to ask, but being the FTM I am totally worried.

Edit...

Logan is 3 weeks and 6 days old and was born 1 month early.

Both my sons were born a month early and both slept pretty much all the time until their due date. But most babies that age only stay up around an hour before they need to sleep again. So a diaper change, eating and maybe a little play is all you get!

Completely normal, especially since he was early. My son was 11 weeks early and slept all the time until a little after his due date. He'll probably sleep a lot for a few more weeks, but gradually he will be awake more.

My Logan is the exact same way..about every 2 hours, maybe 3, like clockwork...wake up change diaper, eat, maybe stay awake for another 10-20 mins and back out until next time. Now I might get one wakeful period usually around 10pm where he wants to hang out for an hour or so. I can't remember how long it lasted with my daughter, but totally normal.

Yup, both Ds1 and Ds2 were 3.5 weeks early and they both slept a lot! As long as LO isn't unresponsive and wakes to feed, etc. there's no reason to worry. They "wake up" around their due date.
