If you've switched docs during pregnancy...

...how'd you do it?

Did you interview them or make a standard prenatal check-up appointment and see what you thought of them then?

We're moving out of state this month and I'll need to find a new doc in our new city. I have lots of recs from friends in our new area, but I'm not sure of the "process" with vetting a new one.

ETA: With my first pregnancy and this current one, I went with the OB/midwife I was already seeing when I got pregnant.

I switched when I was pregnant with DD, to my current OB.  My husband was there during our nephew's birth (they asked him to tape it) and loved me, lol.  I just called them, told them my situation (lost blood work with low progesterone.....), and they made me an appointment for the next week.

My other SIL also switched to my OB during her last pregnancy, and again, just called and made an appointment, and she was 20 some weeks when this occurred.

I decided at my 24week appt that I wanted to switch doctors (was no longer comfortable with mine and wanted a different hospital) I asked for my medical records a few days later and sent them over to another doctor that had good reviews and affiliated with a much better hospital. My old OB charged me per page of records, he said it was NY law. I just had my 28week appointment today with my new doctor, who i love, and basically since I had all my records and all testing done on time and up to date and all is healthy and normal it seemed to be an easy transition. She just talked to me about my medical history and did a full pelvic exam because she felt more comfortable checking everything out herself.

I changed OB's during my 16th week of pregnancy I just made an appointment with the new OB to establish myself as a patient and explained to him I was wanting to transfer from a different Dr and his office took care of everything I just had to sign a medical record release form (or whatever it was called) giving my old office permission to send over all of my records to my new office. It was very easy I expected a lot more trouble. One thing I did need was the old offices address, phone number and fax..

I switched at 20 something weeks. I didn't know what I was doing, so I just made a regular appt, and luckily it worked out really well. I really like my new OB :]

I switched at 33w with DD because my ex-OB was a jerk and tried to tell me there was no such thing as BH when I was having them up to 10x/hr. I went to my current OB because the midwife I met through my birth prep class works in his practice 1 day a week seeing pregnant patients and because a friend who also used to go to my ex-OB recommended him.

If I were you, I'd go with recommendations based on what sort of births your friends had (did they have low-intervention births that they were happy with or did they have a c/s because of a "big baby" or something and are just happy b/c their OB convinced them it was necessary? Did any of them have complications during their pregnancy? If so, how did their OBs handle it?).

I made the switch at 29 weeks. I made appointments with the 2 OBs I was considering using. When I called, I explained how far along I was and that I wanted to switch doctors. In both cases, I was put on hold while the receptionists asked the doctor if s/he would take on a new patient as far along as I was. After meeting both doctors, I chose one and am so happy I made the change.
