Last minute name change? EEK!

I'm panicking a bit. Name has been "decided". Christmas stocking is ordered with name embroidered, name is up and in the nursery etc. BUT I'm asking myself...do I love it?

Name is John Robert...

Thoughts? Too plain? Too simple?

I like it!  I've always liked the name John and Johnny (my grandfather was Giovanni and went by Johnny).  Robert is my dad's name.

I think it's a great name!

Last minute second guessing is normal. If you loved this name when you decided on it, have faith in your decision.

It is a bit plain, but that can be refreshing in a world of Zaidyns. For me, it would depend on family significance and the last name. Smith? Maybe too generic. Walenciewicz? An understandable nod to balance.

This exactly.  Plain and simple is not exactly a bad thing.

It's a classic, nothing wrong about that. I think it's normal to second guess yourself. Just remember why you picked it in the first place.

It's a strong, classic, masculine name that will grow well with your DS. I don't think you should change it. I like it!

I think it is a plain/simple name, but there's nothing wrong with that. It's normal to have last minute uncertainty on a major decision, so if you loved it to begin with, stick with it. That said, if you want to change your mind I wouldn't let the stocking or name being up already deter you... those are easy fixes and now's the time to change it! GL! What's the other name(s) you are considering?

I love it! A true classic and great for tiny baby as well as adult professional.

Also, not too plain at all! Especially considering all your NN options: Johnny, Jack, Bobby, Bob, Rob...etc.

I say keep it, it's a great name, you can't go wrong with a classic name that is spelled correctly.

Agree. Plus it lends itself to numerous nicknames if you feel so inclined. JR, Johnny, Jack, John John, etc...

I agree with all this.  John was one of two finalists for DS.  I liked it because of the family significance (it's DH's grandfather's name), the biblical figures named John, and the strength and simplicity of the name.  Ultimately I'm glad we went with our other choice - one negative for us is that we have a common, short last name, so polysyllabic, more unusual first names work better for us - but John is a classic and I wouldn't discourage you from using it if it's something you've already committed to.  And I can tell you, since DH and I didn't commit to either child's name until after they were born, some second-guessing is inevitable.

My DH's name is John and there is a little part of me that's said we didn't name DS#1 after him (well it is his middle name).

I think John is GREAT for a little boy and Johnny is So cute too.

Timeless.

A little plain, but they are both solid names that will age well with your LO. I'm curious to know what your other choice is.
