heart beat?

I went in for my first prenatal appoinment today, and i told my doctor my concerns about how my pregnancy symptoms have gone down and away in some and she said that was normal the closer you get to the second trimester, but when she tried to hear the heartbeat she didn't hear anything (except my stomach rumbling) she scheduled me to come back in two weeks to see if we can hear it then(and to follow up for the upper respitory infection that i have)....i'm 9 weeks pregnant and not exactly tiny, is it normal that we didn't hear the heartbeat?

1. sometimes positioning affects being able to hear heartbeat

2. Are you basing 9 weeks off your LMP? Chances are you did not O cd14 are you could be less than 9 weeks (or more)

3.isnt 9w too early to hear a heartbeat? (not sure)

From my understanding, the heart starts beating at 6wks or so. I went in at 7 and could only see the heartbeat (after the tech pointed it out) but I have yet to hear by Munchkins heartbeat and I am 10wks. That's from my LMP but I know I did NOT ovulate on cd14...I didn't ovulate till cd18 I think.

I'm high risk, so I have had 2 US and the tech told me not to freak if I can't hear it when they try on the belly US b/c my ute is tilted. (i saw it for the first time today w/ a transvaginal!! ~swoon~)

It can be normal to not hear it that early. My OB won't listen with the doppler until your 12 week appointment. You could also be off on how far along you are if you are basing it on your LMP (unless you know exactly when you ovulated). In that case, you might just be too early.

Yes, it does start beating around 6 weeks, but it's more typical to hear it via doppler closer to 11 weeks. Before then you can see it on ultrasound but you won't be able to hear it usually.

How did she try and listen for it- a doppler or u/s?  You can see the h/b as early as 6w on u/s but I have heard that the doppler doesn't always catch the heartbeat before 11 or 12 weeks.  It can a bit before that but if you don't hear it I heard my last doc say it's normal to not hear it that early- I wouldn't stress too much.  Just try your best and be patient and wait it out- hopefully you'll get to hear it in 2 weeks!

If she used a doppler, they frequently won't find a hb until closer to 12 weeks. Even after that baby can be bouncing around or hiding. I really wouldn't worry too much.

9 weeks isn't from my LMP it's judging from the ultrasound, which we saw the heartbeat on...but when she went to listen on the doppler all she could hear was my heartbeat and my stomach growling

And i guess i'm still just freaking myself out, after the trip to the hospital and lack of pregnancy symptoms then not hearing the heartbeat, but i guess i'll wait and if i don't hear it in two weeks i'll worry then
