I brought my own soft toilet paper. The hospitals was rough and it's the last thing is want in my sore bottom. I needed it during labor since labor gave me the runs.

I suggest bringing a bath towel (or two) from home and maybe a facecloth since the hospital ones can be rough and scratchy.  A travel-size shampoo/conditioner would be a good idea, so you don't get stuck washing your hair with bar soap.  If you wear contacts, don't forget your case/solution.  A blanket from home might be a good idea as well since hospitals can be notoriously chilly.  Cell phone charger.

Well, the hospital provided dry wipes that you would wet with my first child (2009), and with my second (2011) I arrived expecting those wipes and they said they stopped providing them because people were flushing them.  So, I know to bring my own wipes.  We had to do a meconium dipe change with wet paper towel for DS... not good.  I will still bring my undies and pads too and some dipes as back up, even though they are provided.

I think I will skip bringing a blanket.  After two babes I've never had a problem with the temp at our hospital.  But, then again... they were summer babies.

My Doc gave me a carbon copy of my records to date from his office, and said bring them with me to L&D so the nurses have the info (GBS+).  My Doc will not necessarily be the one to deliver our baby.  There are five OB/GYNs in our community and they rotate on-call for L&D at the hospital.

The hospital will have blankets and diapers. There is no chance they wouldn't because a lot of moms go into L&D with no hospital bag and they aren't going to leave babies naked and exposed. They'll even have clothes for the baby, if you're particularly attached to an outfit and afraid of it getting lost.

If your camera uses a rechargable battery instead of AA batteries make sure it is charged and bring the charger with you. I charged mine a couple days before we went to the hospital and the when we were in the OR (I had a C/S). the battery was dead. The Anest. took pics with her iPhone and sent them to us, since DH didn't bring his phone (since he thought the camera would work).

Will you be breastfeeding? Bring your pump and additional supplies so you don't get charge for using one at the hospital.

Magazines or a deck of cards?

Yummy snacks.  The hospital's options can be limited at 3am when you're up all night nursing.

I also wished I had brought my velcro SwaddleMes.  They make swaddling so easy.

I also have a copy of my prenatal records. They keep the records at their other office, which is 50 minutes from where I am and where my hospital is. This way I have them available where ever I am. Be that I go into labour and can't make it to my hospital, I have everything they may need to know.

I would bring your own pillow, in a colorful case so it doesnt get mixed in with hospital linens. I bring my own everytime I go in for a surgery or if I know I'm going to have an overnight hospital stay. My mom calls me the "Professional Patient" cause I've been hospitalized so many time. And trust me, you want your own pillow!

Definitely your own pillows!  I liked having a robe.

We also brought the baby book so they could do the footprints after DD was born.

Laptop?

I would have went crazy without mine for DD. I was also an hour and a half away by myself with nobody really to visit. Since DD slept most of the time, when I wasn't doing walking or feeding her, I just cuddled with her and watched Netflix when I had nothing else to do.

I was also in the hospital for 6 days....failed induction, then a C-Section and then recovery time. So, that was probably part of the reason I was so bored.

I was hoping someone would have asked but why thank you cards? I cannot imagine me worrying or even thinking about thank you cards while I am there for such a short period of time...I see other items on my mind....like baby and being nervous taking him home...I may be naive as this is my first...so be kind :)
