mejane123:I got a nurse like this once. I was about 28 weeks as told her I was getting RLP and a LOT of BH, and I was worried because I'd read more than 4 BH in an hour needed to be reported to my OB. She flat out told me there was no way I was having BH that early, I wouldn't be getting them until 35 weeks or so, and to lay down and drink some water. I felt like saying, oh, would you like to confirm that with your boss, that guy who, you know, went to med school and told me I would be getting them? She was treating me like a stupid FTM who's concerns were silly and wasting her time. Fortunately all of the other nurses at his office are awesome, but that one just irked the eff out of me.
My cousin is a nurse, and let me tell you she isn't nearly as knowledgable as she thinks she is. I have a couple health issues that, when I am not pregnant, require the use of some pain management. I also benefit from being a vegetarian/vegan. She called me up once and proceeded to tell me, for over two hours, how I was a drug addict (with zero evidence of that fact) and that I was not knowledgable enough on nutrition to be a vegan/vegetarian. I was SO incredibly upset! I am in fact very knowledgable on both my nutritional choices and my medical problems. She gave me a laundry list of reasons that my health issues were not a "big deal" when they had in fact been ruling my life for the past ten + years. My husband spent the next three hours reminding me that a person with a "little knowledge about a lot" can be a very dangerous person. When dealing with doctors and nurses I now remind myself that even the person who graduated LAST in their class, did in fact graduate, and that could be who I am dealing with.
