HCG Info Needed

Had my first u/s friday and b/c i don't have regular periods, I am measuring earlier than they expected. We saw what the nurse thought was the heartbeat. My doc tested my hcg levels friday and yesterday. He was looking for the number to double. On monday they were 11,000 and yesterday they were 13,000......so he wants me to have them tested again on thursday.

My question is this. Could my pregnancy still be viable and healthy even though the numbers didn't double?? The nurse I spoke to say that is very possible. Help I need any information you are able to give! Thank you!

Once your levels get beyond 5,000 or so then they generally stop doubling, slowing done a fair bit. Also, once you're able to see anything on u/s, that becomes a more reliable way of measuring growth. So if you go back in a week with what they saw before you should be able to see a heartbeat, and they should be able to measure how much the gestational sac has grown. Honestly, I'd push for another ultrasound rather than another blood draw. The extra blood draw just won't tell you enough at this point. HTH, and good luck!

ETA - I thought I wrote it before, but YES it is absolutely possible to still have a normal and viable pregnancy! :-)

Thank you so much for your response. I will definitely have to ask about having another u/s. The whole hcg level is very confusing.

i agree, once you start getting into the thousands, i don't think it doubles. If they saw the heartbeat... that's a good thing! I would just calm down and stop stressing.
