Need a soon to be mom's opinion.

Hi, I usually post in the 1st trimester board and have done, but haven't got any replies. I'm hoping that someone has experienced this and is having a healthy pregnancy. Here is my story:

Had my first u/s friday and b/c i don't have regular periods, I am measuring earlier than they expected. We saw what the nurse thought was the heartbeat. My doc tested my hcg levels friday and yesterday. He was looking for the number to double. On monday they were 11,000 and yesterday they were 13,000......so he wants me to have them tested again on thursday.

My question is this. Could my pregnancy still be viable and healthy even though the numbers didn't double?? The nurse I spoke to say that is very possible. Help I need any information you are able to give! Thank you!

this really is a first tri question, and the reason you've not had any responses is because we have no idea. Honestly, i hate to tell you but the evidence does not look great in your favor, but we can't tell you anything beyond that.

Hello,

How many weeks do you think you are?  This happened to me too.  When I went for my first ultrasound I didn't even get to see a heartbeat.  There was only a sac.  My bloodwork showed my hcg levels were lower than normal that day.  When I had my bloodwork done again they had gone up, but my progesterone had gone down.

They told me I would miscarry.

I ended up switching doctors (for many reasons), and my new doctor told me not to place too much stock in the numbers alone.

I am 33 weeks this week, and I have had no complications. :)

I know it is stressful.  Worrying about miscarrying is the worse feeling.  Good luck!

What was the baby measuring at when you went in? I see that your ticker says 10 weeks or so, how OFF was it?

I've also heard that after a few weeks HCG levels really can't tell you much about "where" in a pregnancy you are. The more important thing early on is that the numbers double every 48-72 hours but only early on. Once you're out of a certain range of weeks I think that HCG levels can vary so much from person to person.

My 1st DD I knew I had O'd later they "they" thought I should. My u/s showed a 5w3 day sac or something and they were expected to see a baby at the 6 week 1 day u/s. I knew the dates were off, but they still put me through a lot of HCG tests for a couple weeks and another u/s only to see that baby was fine and measuring perfect for what I had thought my O date was all along.

HCG levels don't double the entire pregnancy.  I'm not sure when they start to taper off, but if you're already 11 weeks I'd think you're about there.  I honestly wouldn't worry unless there are other indicators like bleeding, drastically decreasing heartrate, etc.

My hcg's weren't doubling "properly" in my first trimester. But here I am coming to you from the 3rd trimester board, pregnant with a baby boy! Good luck.

When I had my first pregnancy my numbers more than doubled but I lost the baby at 12 weeks... this time my numbers JUST doubled and I am at 33 weeks this week! So anything is possible. There is always hope... you should do your test again and they could possibly do an u/s and with that you might have a better idea about your LO... GL!

If the numbers are already that high they won't double like the lower numbers. Chances are you o'd later than your lmp. It really irks me that they put so much stock into a "normal" 28 day cycle. They told me I would miscarry this time I here I am.

I had several betas because I went through infertility treatments. My understanding is that past a certain amount of time (especially now they you are 10 weeks) they don't double anymore. They mainly double in the beginning stages. Honestly it's a little odd they are checking your HCG right now given how far along you are. They stopped checking mine when I hit 6 weeks and they just did ultrasounds then and checked progesterone.

Thank you for your responses. My ticker isn't accurate b/c its going off my lmp. I'm off by like 3 weeks. I'm putting all my faith in God's hands and praying for the best. Thanks again for all the reassuring responses!

So based on the measurements of the u/s, did the baby measure correctly for THAT particular size? Like if they have you had 7 weeks, did everything look normal for 7ish weeks?

I have irregular periods as well, so I went through the same process as you.  I found out I was pregnant when I was about 4-5 weeks.  I don't remember my exact count but when I had my blood taken within about 4 days of eachother I know the horomones raised by 10,000 (points?) in that period.  I wouldnt worry until they tell you to.  The fact that they are going up is good.

Thank you for being so reassuring. It worries me that it seems to be a concern for them but I am keeping it in mind that so many people don't double and rise slow, so I've been told. As for the comment above, I measured fine for where I was at that particular time which I think they said was 6 weeks. I am having to constantly remind myself this is in God's hands and everything is going to work out. Again thank you Gracelsa4110 for your post!

My initial hcg levels didn't double like they should have. I'm now 33 weeks and have had no real complications. I think the doubling tapers once your levels are that high, but I could be wrong. Good luck!
