Baby shower theme ideas?

My MIL is planning my baby shower for early/middle Jan because I am due toward the middle of Feb. She's already determined that we will have it at her house, which is wonderful because I've always really liked how her house is built. It's not incredibly small, but also by no means a large house, so my guest list will not be very big(perhaps about 10-15 at most?)

She's beginning to ask my ideas on themes and what I'd like to go on during the shower. She's one of those people who is always very concerned with making things how you'd like it if she's planning a party or something. However, I'm 22 and this is my very first LO, and I have only been to one baby shower, so I haven't the slightest idea what generally goes on.

My LO is a girl, and her nursery theme is pastel colours, but I guess you could say is classic pooh as her cribset is a pink pooh bear set.I've read that generally the party themes reflect the nursery theme. Is this the general "norm" for a shower theme? We're on a bit of a budget after splurging on nursery stuff for her recently(who doesn't!?)

Also, are games expected? I've found that I'd rather just socialize with the people who have actually taken time out of their day to come celebrate my baby versus play some silly, possibly awkward games.

Any ideas, suggestions or input would be loved!

Do a Pooh themed shower. Also just have them decorate a onesie  for the baby and mom decides the winner.  This way you havecute original clothes for baby and and not alot of games.  Takes about 10 or 15 minutes to decorate.

And about eleventy billion years to dry.  Just keep that in mind.

ETA, I've been to very few showers where games were played.  It just doesn't seem to be a big thing with my circle of friends/family.  OP, I'm with you in that I would rather just socialize with friends and family then play some awkward and forced game.

Generally, just make sure people are fed and that you open presents. Pinterest is a great place to look for shower ideas and check out your local dollar store for decorations, paper plates, napkins, balloons, etc. Games are optional, it's nice to have an activity but not necessary. At my SIL's shower, each guest filled out a page of a scrapbook for the mother-to-be and baby. People wrote down wishes and advice, guesses as to the baby's name, date of birth, time of birth, weight, height.

Games are so not necessary. They kind of drag out the event. If your mom is insistent on having games you could do gift bingo (the guests fill out their own bingo squares with things they think you will open and it keeps people busy during the gift opening. I actually really like this game. For people that aren't really into watching you open gifts, it gives them something to do.

My hosts did the decorate a onesie and I love how they turned out, but very few people decorated them. We had about 40 people attend and probably 8 people decorated them. It wasn't a competition (I didn't decide on a winner) so I'm not sure I'd even call this a "game". We didn't play any other games. Just an FYI, but most people don't like to play games at showers. We had a brunch around 11 and chatted then opened gifts. It was about 2 hours long. There was no theme, but it was pink and girly. I think a Pooh themed shower is very cute.

My friends are decorating based on the colors of the crib set I have picked out... pink, brown and cream. To be honest, I didn't want to have a cheesy theme just something classy and pretty. My friend is going to have like cupcake towers as the centerpieces and some pretty vases with mints and stuff.

As far as games, I am not sure what will happen. The plan is to try to have some games, but I just want to visit with my girlfriends because I can't wait to see them :)

I think that if her nursery is pastel colors, and a pooh theme... a vintage inspired pooh themed shower would be adorable!!! and you don't need a ton of stuff to make a theme...

You have the basics ready; a color pattern and a theme (pooh bear). Just build your baby shower around these ideas. You can get a affordable banner at Walmart that reads something like "Our Baby Shower At The Hundred Acre Woods"

Decorate your venue with balloons and streamers that coincide with the theme of the nursery.

For food, I would keep it English. Make sure to make it all finger foods so its nice and mobile, here are some ideas:

  • Cheddar cheese sticks
  • Toast with condensed milk and cinnamon
  • Crumpets
  • Apple slices with honey
  • Grape and strawberry jam sandwiches
  • Ham and cheese sandwiches
For games you can play winnie the pooh trivia games our baby bear cub trivia games.

There are so many things you can do with a winnie the pooh baby shower theme. Have fun! http://baby-shower-decoration-ideas.com/winnie-the-pooh-baby-shower-decorations/

Instead of decorating onesies, you could have them make bows. If you like games, do games. If you don't then don't. For my shower we had food, a mentor did a small devotional about motherhood, we played three games and did cake while I opened gifts. Pinterest is the best place to check out themes. My theme was really just the colors of my nursery. For my sister's shower, the theme was reading/nursery. I found the idea off of Martha Stewart Living.

I agree.  That is really the only game I don't mind.  If you are going to watch the gifts then you might as well make a game out of it to where the person can win a prize.  Otherwise games are horrible, well at least in my opinion.

I like the pooh bear theme.  It is easy and you obviously like it since it is the theme for your nursery.

Congrats! I think a classic pooh theme is adorable! Reminds me of this shower invite:

pooh baby shower invitation

But you don't have to have a theme that's related to your nursery theme. Go with what you like, your favorite colors, style (glam, whimsical, modern), etc. And games are not necessary at baby shower especially if you're not a fan of it. For 15-20, it's not a huge party but small enough to mingle and enjoy each other's company.
