Baby won't sleep

LO won't sleep @ night or nap during the day. She'll fell asleep in my arms but wake up the second I put her in the bassinet. I know it may be a growth spurt( she's 3 weeks old) but we need SLEEP, please help!!!

I am going through the same thing. LO is eating every 1.5-2 for 45min-an hour at a time. This doesn't leave much time for sleeping and I too am having trouble getting him to sleep in the crib even though he is passed ut in my arms. On top of it all DH has not been able to touch the baby in a week because he has the flu, so I am on my own. My suggestion is to try taking baby for a drive or out for a walk and leave baby in carrier sleeping (take turns watching him) when you get home. My LO will actually sleep for about 4 hours this way, when we go out it is always the longest nap of the day.

Do you have a bouncer or a swing?  DS wouldn't sleep at all if we put him flat at that age. But if he was up at an angle and had the constant movement, we could usually get an hour out of him instead of 5 minutes.

During the day I wear DS a lot of the time, he naps great in the Moby.

At night I would let him sleep on my chest while I slept. He just wanted to be close. At around 4 weeks he would go down fine at night in his bassinet.  He still won't nap in it during the day though.

Let your baby sleep into swing. This is the best option I ever heard.

When did your son grow out needing to be inclined? My youngest absolutely refuses to sleep on his back so he sleeps in his unmoving swing at night which I hate.

My oldest was happy in his crib from the moment he came home from the hospital, so this is new for me. Any advice on transitioning from upright to on his back?

I find it helps to swaddle my LO super tight (I mean, she can breathe & all, her arms are just contained tightly).  Once her arms aren't able to flail around, she usually settles.  It doesn't work all the time, but worth a try!

I absolutely know how frustrating it can be when they wake up a million times, so hang in there!!!

Are you swaddling her?  my LO wakes up sometimes as well as soon as I put him down in the bassinet or swing etc.  His arms flail around and he wakes himself up.  If his arms are tightly swaddled, it helps him stay asleep.

Whenever I was really deperate for sleep I would lay down with baby and nurse laying down, that way even if baby didn't sleep I could doze off for a few minutes.

This is probably the "wrong" advice, but I had this problem when LO was around that age and i ended up propping pillows around me and sleeping with her on my chest.  I was reprimanded by the pediatrician but I was just SO desperate for sleep.

LO is now 11 weeks and for the past few weeks I have been swaddling her and putting her in her crib.  The first couple nights were rough but I can tell she is starting to feel more secure in her crib and getting used to sleeping on her back.  And I sleep much better now.  When I let her sleep on my chest I slept so lightly I'd wake up everytime she moved.

Point is, do what works for you.  You need sleep and LO is too young to fall into bad habits.  So whether it's co-sleeping or putting her in the swing to sleep, just do what works.

I'm doing the same thing as str8. LO will nap in his bassinet, swing or bouncer but at night he screams the second I set him down. So he sleeps on me. I haven't told the pedi, they will judge me and I dont feel like dealing with it. LO and I get 8 to 9 hours of sleep though!

I remember both of my sons doing this.  Going for a walk in the stroller to get fresh air before nap time always helped us.  Even if there is a chill in the air, I still go out even for a bit.  With hats and snuggly clothes we sent out today and it was 32.  I got a good nap out of him by keeping him in the carseat.  Good luck!  I know it's hard when you're exhausted and need a break.

Walks in the stroller work wonders for her! No more how tight we swaddle she wiggles out,she did the same thing in the hospital. I am not comfortable letting her fall asleep on me or DH because we sleep pretty wild. My doc hasn't release me to use a baby carrier. I may let her STTN and pump so DH can feed her in the morning.

Well I held him on my chest at night in our recliner for the first 9 weeks.  Then he started STTN so we moved him to the bouncer until he could sit up on his own.  Then we took it away and he transitioned to the crib with no incline with no issues.  We just put him in there one day and he slept normally.

For naps we had him in the swing until he was sitting up and then we held him until he was about 9 months old.  I think he would have been okay earlier than that but honestly I really liked the snuggle time and wanted to keep it as long as possible.  (Plus it was an excuse to sit on my butt and catch up on crappy television twice a day.) Eventually the sitter put him down in the crib for a nap and he slept with no problem so we went with it. I still miss it though. I have no idea why he was fine with the crib at night so much earlier than he was for napping.

For us, I always dread transitions and put them off as long as possible.  But then we go cold turkey and it always goes much easier than I expect.

LO  did not sleep well last night, new eventually took her for a drive. For those who did the car trick, does it also work when you drive during hour 1 of colic?
