Altitude

We live in CO so we are already a mile high.  We want to visit my family soon and they live in the mountains which is another 2000 ft higher.  My question is, do I have to wait until he is a certain age to go up there or is there a way to acclimate him so we can visit just for a day.

I understand that there are babies who live at much higher elevations but they were also in the womb at that time.  I have a nephew who lives up there, but he was in the womb the whole time.

No, you don't have to wait. Plenty of babies are born and live at much higher altitudes than Colorado.

Why not just call your ped and ask?  I'm sure it would be fine, but I would verify with the ped if it was me.  We're in Colorado also but don't venture into the mountains often so I've never asked.

I'm sure your fine. Would you worry about taking a babe from sea level to 2000 feet if say, you lived in Seattle?  It's the same relative altitude gain for your LO, who is acclimated to your current elevation.  Call if you'd like, but I wouldn't think twice about it!

No, you dont have to wait. We live in Colorado Springs, and we took DS to Telluride when he was 3 wks old. It had no affect on him.
