healthcare kit

Is it really necessary to register for a whole kit? I understand that you use certain things a bit (nail clippers, thermometer for example) but they seem to be packed with a bunch of unnecessary things. What do you really use in them??

I don't have a kit, I just bought 1-off items we needed.  I think it might be better to buy them seperate, b/c then you can get the product with the feature you really want.

We have & use a thermometer (the old-school kind you can put in the baby's butt, and an ear one now that she's older and won't sit still), a baby comb and baby hairbrush (the brush we only used to brush her head when she got cradle cap).  I use a regular tiny nailclipper, like the kind you'd find in an adult travel kit that we already had, not a baby-specific one.  I also just used a good nail file for the first several months.  And the blue nose snot-sucker.

I just bought the things I needed separately. The kit seemed like a waste of things I wouldn't use or wasn't the brand that I preferred.

We bought a few items we needed and did not need the whole bundled kit because as a whole, those kit items are kind of inferior. So when you consider everything, we probably spent more than the cost of one of those kits, but we ended up with quality products.

Here's what we got by:

soft bristled hair brush

bulb aspirator from the hospital and we bought the Frida nose sucker

small nail clippers

Vicks rectal thermometer (fast, safe and easy to use)

don't bother with those medicine droppers because all infant meds come with dispensers

The only thing I used out of my kid was the acetominophen and the nail clippers.  The rest of it all expired.  I bought a comb/brush separately.

But I like to keep all of this on hand in case of infant illnesses:

Snot sucker

Acetominophen/Ibuprofen

Saline Spray

Baby Vicks

Pedialyte

Gas Drops

Thermometer

I thought the quality was pretty bad for most of the things included.  I'd recommend buying the items separately and making your own kit.

Agreed.  Do yourself a favor and go to the trouble of keeping these items in a special box, like a tacklebox.  Having all of these items kept together has been a real organization life saver.
